DAB car radio

As per the title, I read that the signal is being switched off and DAB radio is the only type thats going to be available.

So, does anyone have a digital radio (they reccomend) in thier motor and was it an install by you or factory supplied?

I'm going to start looking for one in the near future as is everyone else, and it would be good to get a heads up on this stuff as I don't have a clue.

So to start with, I have found this site:

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/DAB_car_radios.html

looks like you get both an add on and a in-dash system type.

and as a cheap start up, i've found this JVC:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-KD-DB10...3?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1278770084&sr=1-3

£179.99

One of the reasons why I picked the JVC KD-AVX77 was because it supports the JVC DAB module helping me future proof the ICE

Don't rush out to buy a car DAB radio just yet. The FM switch off is planned for 2015 but it may well be postponed due to the slow uptake of DAB by the public.

Geoff.

Having tried a car with DAB i wouldn't waste my money at the moment. Unlike FM where you get the white noise slightly but can still get a signal with DAB it is all or nothing and in a moving car, mostly nothing (and before anyone says it this did have a specialist DAB antenna fitted). The trouble is that the signal in the uk is nowhere near strong enough and because there has been next to no investment in DAB tech it will remain this way.

This in itself is enough to put you off the technology even before you get into the rubbish compressed sound due to the low bandwidth leaving many users very dissapointed in what is supposed to be a better technology.

I had a DAB radio in the Focus and I never once experienced it cutting out while I had it. Better signal than FM round here.

I have DAB in my EP3, pretty decent, I can get a Nottingham based radio station just south of Birmingham before the signal is too weak!

Fine for me, only place on my regular travels I get drop out is a bit near Henley. It's a heavily tree-lined road in a valley, a nuke strike wouldn't even make a dent.

Make sure you get a decent antenna though, I find the beesting I fitted to the Volvo is much better than the windscreen film ones.
