Dc5 has less power than an ep3

2001 dc5 type r, Recently had my car dyno'd along with a mates ep3

Both standard apart from a mugen twinloop and hondata airbox mods.
Ep3 went on the rollers and came out at 166bhp @ wheels, which equates to roughly 205bhp @ fly

My dc5 went on and came out at 163bhp @ wheels, roughly 202bhp @fly. That's an 18bhp loss!!

I was shocked, both runs we're carried out exactly the same!

Anyone have any ideas on why this is?
My dc5 has been recently serviced, all filters, plugs changed etc. Motul 8100 5w40 fully synth oil and a hamp filter. Also put in a cosworth drop in air filter.

Could it be anything to do with valve clearances, I have no record of this ever being done. Engine doesn't sound massively tappy though.

Some engines come out more powerful than others. Unless the car feels underpowered I wouldn't worry, the DC5 only has around 15 more than the EP3 anyway.

Valve clearances can affect the power some. If there is too high of a clearance then the valves won't be pushed open as far as they should causing power loss.

DC5 should definitely feel quicker. Get the clearances done and then if it's still down on power I'd be getting a compression test done.

What fuel are you using btw?

Could be any number of things tbh, dirty fuel filter, clogged injectors, naff spark plugs.

Not sure sorry, I only mentioned it as I was looking at the CH1 service schedule yesterday and saw it on there.

It's worth paying the extra for iridium IMO, they last much longer. Denso are also fine.

Just to add here.

The DC5 isn't 220bhp.

It's 220ps. (around 217 bhp) on jap 100 Ron fuel.

On uk 98 Ron, anywhere between 210-215bhp is normal.

check your airfilter, I did some back to back tests on filters using my Flashpro on my FN2 a while back and found some certain airfilters dropped MAP pressure by over 10% compared to Honda OEM, the worst that I found was Do Luck. It seems Foam filters don't fair so well and pleated filters like oem and KnN are the best.

My own results on my own car I do admit

That's still a 8-13bhp drop from standard though, which actually makes the clearance idea seem more viable considering the factors you've said about, its not such a massive drop and clearances could cause that drop.
