Hi people :D new to this forum :p i currently own a 2003 Cvic type R,had it for only few months, love the performance but cant say the same for the looks:( i like it befor but need somthing that looks more aggresive.Thats why i been thinking about getting the DC5:cool: heard a lot of good things about the DC5 ,simlar performance to the civic type R which is good and looks better which is the main resoned im 90% getting one.So i just like to know if there any common problems with the DC5 and what is to look out for when buying a one thanks:)

Ive had my DC5 for around 7 months and not had a single problem (touch wood). Its the best car ive ever owned, fantastic!

Ive never owned a CTR so i cant really compare only to say the DC5 is like the pretty sister

I've owned both and say the DC5 is better car handling wise. Power/realistic speed is about the same and IMO the DC5 has better build quality.

They are Import only though and this does tend to affect the insurance. If you're under 25, expect to pay a hefty premium.

thanks for responding guys :D sounds good so far:cool: just had a look at anther forum and they say to look out for the Road tax and make sure its class as PLG can any one tell me more about this ?

PLG just means you'll be paying a lower amount of tax around £180 a year, the DC5 varies, a lot of cars aren't PLG and fall into the £300 and £400 a year tax brackets.

Most common fault is the 02 sensor going. Average about 65000 miles and it's around £160 for a new one.

I don't think it's so much as make sure it's PLG, it's just preferable as it's the lowest of the 3 tax bands the DC5 falls into.

If you look on a car's registration certificate, Beside CO2 (g/km), it will either have no emission figure (PLG), 223g/km or 234g/km. Current annual costs are £185, £210 and £400 respectively, rising soon to £190, £215 and £415 and in 2010 to £not yet stated, £245 and £425... HTH

Thanks for the advice so far guys deffently going to go for a DC5 now :p just thinking of which courlor to go for ? just wondering would the civic type R EP3 model strut brace front and back fit the DC5 ? if so rather fit them in the DC5 then sell them with the civic when i evently buy a DC5:cool:

I was just browsing my old phone files, and found this pic I took of it just before it got sold.. I miss the Teg

I embarrassed a very nice looking white FTO the other day.

Personally I like Champ white, but it is the most common. Blue with white wheels also looks good. I know someone on here will concur.

My favorite colours for the DC5, in order are:
• Red
• Black
• Blue
• White
• Silver

But I had to get it in the right colour... the colour with history... ;)

I wouldn't buy an Alfa in any colour than Red either... you see where I'm going with the principle... :p

It's the norm to get the signal changed so that the kmph face reads in mph, then it's just the case of covering or painting over the 'k' in kmph. Personally I've never seen the entire face changed, all the cars I've seen have been converted as described...

A MPH/KMPH face does exist on the USDM Acura RSX, but haven't seen an example of it, on a JDM Integra.

Are you looking at importing yourself or buying one already in the UK?

I have had both the CTR and the DC5 which i still own  I think both cars are excellent but the DC5 has more of the wow factor not to mention other standard bits like the recaros, red interior and HID's etc.

Anyway heres a pic of my DC5 as it is

I've had my DC5 for about a year now and have no regrets about buying it.
The reason i choose this over the CTR is it's more exclusive better looking, seems more focused and is better spec'ed.
If you are buying one i would say just do the usual checks(accident damage, service history, mileage etc) and go for the lowest mileage car you can afford with a few sensible modification to save some money in the long run.

Hi

I'm changing my car and am dead set on a DC5. I've read loads of posts on here but still unsure about a few points.

The car is a 2002 with 96000 on the clock- I had a look at the import document and it said 75000 back in 2005. Does this mean that the car has done 96000 km in total or 75000 Km+21000 miles (obviously the cars speedo has been converted to MPH but does this also affect the odometre?)

Also, the car has been in the UK for 4 years but does not have any service history although all MOT slips are supplied along with an alarm insurance certificate.

What do you think?

Thanks

If it's got no service history avoid!! It's either been owned by someone who doesn't give a feck or the dealer's hiding something.

Any enthusiast owned Type R of any shape or sort will have a folder full of receipts and MOTs etc. I even keep my old tax discs.

There are plenty of DC5s about, they are pricey compared to an EP3, but you always get what you pay for IMO. Try someone like 200BHP Cars. They're specialist importers:
