Does anyone know where the starter motor is on an ep3?

Even more bad news... now I need advise. I got the new knock sensor and put everything back together and guess what same problem. The starter motor wasn't cranking the engine. I therefore decided to recondition the old starter motor and try it and still no luck. I took it to a garage and they tell me that its the ring gear and the flywheel is spinning around out. :( . This sounds like a big job. Any advise.
