Engine mount insert choices / kits for ep3

Hi people's new to the forum n that , plan to change everything to power flex in the future and working at a exhaust specialist engine mounting for us is key so when we get busy on a custom manifold mounting and movement needs to be to a minimum hopefully , my question is , powerflex sell a gearbox mount insert for £19 and you get 1 only and the energy inserts you get 2 for £30 do I need both sets to do all mount inserts? or do I just need the energy ones ? Or 2 of the powerflex ones :/ confused any help would be mint :) cheers

you'll need both lots to do them all, the energy inserts will be for the front and rear of the engine, the powerflex gearbox mount goes in the passenger side mount on top of the gearbox, surprisingly .

You're going to get a lot more vibration in the cabin after fitting all of these!

Ohhhh right , just had a look am I correct in thinking that the powerflex one is for the mount located under / behind the air box and battery tray ? If so mine looks fairly perished :/

Just support the engine and remove , how was the process of inserting the new inserts . Do they need pressing in or just gentle persuasion device aka a hammer ?? Cheers

They should just push in. Don't trim the gearbox one so it sits flush either, a lot of people do that but Powerflex say it's like that for a reason, I can't find the post explaining why now thought atm.

can anyone tell me where i can get all of these inserts/mounts from? and is there only inserts available? dont polyflex do a full mount kit??

Powerflex only do the gearbox mount, Energy suspension do the engine mount inserts. Will you want them fitted as well or are you doing them yourself?

TGM should have the engine ones, send them a pm on here or call them. I think my gearbox one came from Funky Power but anywhere that sells powerflex products should be able to supply one.

and how are they? Im currently experiencing some trouble shifting while accelerating hard. I think its because of engine movement.
Also got some excessive wheelhop. But what do u guys recommend? I dont want excessive vibration, but just enough to proper shift whilst running through the gears.

Im thinking about buying the gearbox mount and leave it at that and maybe supporting it with an engine demper.

hope u can help me out

i dont think just the gearbox mount will be wise as thatll have the support but none of the others will. Ive got the energy mounts front and rear and the powerflex gearbox mount. The vibrations in the car is quite considerable but not unbearable, gives it a more connected feel. I have no problem shifting, the only problem im having at the mo is getting the power down! so in my eyes definatly worth doing but will give you more noise and vibration in the cabin!

@ sparky tnx for the quick reply.

True thats why im thinking of using it in combination with an engine damper.
Problem is i had PU inserts in my B18 EK Hatch and didnt mind the extra vibration because it was mainly a DD/Track car.
But the EP3 is my family ride and i dont want the extra vibration cause it makes it feel cheap .

but do you think because of the extra support on the left side of the engine, the engine would twerk a little under acceleration?

I would just replace with OEM if you don't want vibration. I have the same thing with mine. It's a daily and don't want to make it unbearable or any increase in vibration to be honest. OEM ones are more than up to the job just they need replacing after a few years.

I've seen that Poweflex now do the engine mount inserts. Does anyone know if they are better than the Energy Suspension ones? Don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need to as the Poweflex ones are more expensive.

What is the bare minimum you can do? Want to improve it a little but don't want to make it more uncomfortable or anything, heard just doing the rear engine mounts is okay?

I would say go for front and rear engine mounts and gearbox upper. The vibration really isn't that bad, you get used to it in no time (unless you have something loose behind the dash, then you'll want to set fire to your car).

You could of course just replace one or two, but while you're at it you may as well do them all and maintain the balance. If you replace just the rear it will just transfer more of the movement to the front mount, wearing it out more quickly.

Definitely one of the best things I've done to my car. It's a good compromise between function and comfort.
