Evo got their mitts on the JDM only FD2 Civic Type R and have tested it in the new September issue. The verdict? They love it! Yep the love it so much they feature it on the cover with the new M3, and compare it favourably to the DC2 Teg. It wins the full 5 star rating too. Evo writer Richard Meaden writes "The REAL Type-R" and +Screaming engine, razor-sharp chassis. - Demands commitment, import only. He also comments that:

"Litchfield is selling the four-door CTR for £22,995 on the road, which includes all import costs, a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm, 12 months tax, number plates and a full three year warranty. Thats around £5000 more than a UK Civic Type-R, but such is the gulf between the watered-down experience offered by the hatchback and the full-strength fury of the saloon there's little sense in making a direct comparisson. Perhaps you'd be better off looking upon this import-only Civic as a four-door NSX-R, for it possesses much of the supercar's spirit."

And:

"So the oldie remains a goodie, but having critised Honda for selling the original Civic Type-R and its recent hatchback successor's soul to the marketing devil, it's reassuring to see that Honda's men in white coats (As opposed to those in fancy suits) haven't sold out. The inspirational qualities that led us to love the original Integra are still there to be enjoyed in the exceptional four-door Civic Type-R."

So it would seem that the FD2 is going to be everything we hoped it would be and more if even Type-R skeptics Evo rate it so highly. The best hot Honda they say, on a parr with the DC2. And so much better than the frankly awfull FN2 you have to wonder why Honda didnt just bring it here in the first place instead of wasting money developing a car not fit to wear the badge.
