Exhaust corroded in 3 years!

How long should a new exhaust last? I had mine replaced 3 years ago and its now corroded through and the back box has fallen off.

It wasn't a Honda exhaust it was an after market (cheaper) one of some kind, but it still cost £500 (inc fitting VAT). So I thought I would have 10 years (ish) without an issue.

This is bad right? Or if I paid £500 for a full exhaust, should I only expect 3 years use before it falls off?

It doesn't really matter what something costs, if its made of cheap materials it will fail. Especially with exhausts where it is such a thin steel in places.

By modern day that’s poor. Jap cars aren’t renowned for the best quality of exhaust but most standard systems last at least 5 years.
I’d be looking into sourcing a high quality stainless steel system that not only will last but will give a little in performance.

Yea I guess £500 for a full exhaust change is probably quite cheap (it didn't seem like it at the time), get what you pay for I guess.
Honda exhaust £2000 = 15 years
Cheap exhaust £500 = 3 years
