FN2 FN2 Questions, parts, mods (long post alert)

Disclaimer up front, I use tap talk for the forum and for whatever reason the search function is rubbish, never used to be.

Picking up my ‘project’ champ white Ed on Friday coming.

Lots of maintenance required and keeping my fingers crossed the one spot of rust on the body is all there is as I’ve bought blind, well photos and videos.

Have plans to get this back up to a high standard but whilst the body work is ropey. Thinking of building a bit of a light spec track car.

Brakes:
DC5 callipers seem the best bang for buck but I understand the standard wheels won’t fit, so what size will / does anyone have any recommendations?

NA tuning:
I’ll for sure be doing an intake (recommendations?) lots of kits to relocate the battery and cold air feed but then Tegiwas carbon box also looks a safe bet for heat.

I’ll be doing a 421 manifold, sports cat and cat back. The only company I can see that do that combo is Piper and whilst their exhausts get decent reviews the welds look poor, mig rather than tig. Solid fab also does a system that’s twice the price (get what you pay for?). Or I’ve got the option of going custom.

I see the RRC (I think) manifold gets lots of recommendations and is a must but then I see some people recommend throttle body (is tegiwas ok?) and DC5 oil pump and then of course but not always and sometimes one over the other recommended?

Of course there’s cams on top, which I’m looking at. However the bigger question is if I all of the above an eventually go forced induction will I be wasting money on those parts or can they all be used in conjunction with a supercharger kit?

Suspension:
Which coilovers? Meister R seem to be the go to but around the 1k mark I also see the YSR kit come recommended and then there’s a kit from Tein (the mid range one). I’ll want something that’s going to do well for fast road but also be fine on track (probably once or twice a year, maybe a little more if I’m lucky).

Anything else that should be here? Rear sway bar?

Transmission:
Anyone running the short shift from Tegiwa, the answer is probably yes but is it worth spending the extra on a short shift kit from the likes of hybrid racing?

North East Honda specialist:
I’ll likely be using JM Imports and to be honest pretty happy with taking it there but interested to know if there are any ‘Honda Specialists’ in the North East, in case there’s a hidden gem im missing or one way closer.

Thanks in advance!

Hey, lots of questions lol, a lot is personal preference tbh,
Brakes: there are lots of big brake kits on offer, most are a grand plus, I like Spoons calipers as you can use standard size discs and pads from an s2000 (on an EP3) not sure if that is true on a FN2 but I would expect it to be meaning you have a lot of choice for discs and pads, obviously change hoses and fluid too. For now you could just change fluid, hoses and a decent set of pads,

Intake: Tegiwa carbon is a safe bet, the HKS RSK is also popular with the FN2.

Exhaust: You have already nailed it there Piper is pretty much the only one that does a sports cat, I have heard they have to be hot to pass the emissions test, solid fab haven't heard bad things there, you could speak with Dynodaze, I know they have experience with the Piper manifold and have dyno'd them.

RRC is regarded as one of the best, you can also fit the FD2 throttle body to this and port match them keeping it OEM too. I heard the Tegiwa throttle bodies are decent too though.

Cams again few choices, FD2 cams, Drag Cartel, Skunk2 a range of them now from drop in that require no changes to valve springs etc to stage 1 upwards, but they would require uprated springs and retainers at a minimum, I would not bother or go with drop in ones.

If you are supercharging, cams, throttle body and exhaust will be fine, depending on which charger you go for you will either lose your intake or intake manifold, for example if you went with a supercharger like a CT or Jackson racing which are now hard to get hold of you would lose the RRC manifold, if you went Rotrex depending on type but say if it was the supersport top mount you would lose you Tegiwa carbon intake.

Suspension you could look at just doing springs like Eibach and a good set up, you will need rear shims and front camber bolts, Area Motorsport do kits for the FN2 they use Yellow speed coilovers, maybe worth checking out, again as you said Meister R is popular and Tein are decent, had Tein on an old EP3 but did find them a bit harsh but could have been the set up as they were on the car when I got it.

Hope some of this helps and good luck.

Appreciate the lengthy reply… to my lengthy post! Cars a bit rough! Have a few items to take care of first! Namely a P0171 code, engine running lean and also an ABS/VSA light which I know is common but also probably related to the sticky calliper I have on the rear passenger side!

Getting it in at JM Imports for an inspection at the start of next month so I’ll see what the plan is from there. Due its MOT in Jan so will decide whether it gets sorned over winter and whether I attempt to do some of the work myself, famous last words.

Great shout on the spoon callipers, do you know if they’ll fit the oem wheel, without a spacer?

I remember having a code on the EP3 saying engine running lean and it ended up being an O2 sensor sure it was the one after the cat,

Not sure if they would fit an OEM wheel the wheel is bigger on an FN2 so I think it may.
