FN2 FN2 Rear Axle (Beam)

Messages

Hi all,

So my car - 09 FN2 just failed the NCT (Irish version of the MOT) on a crack in the rear beam.
The guy said it could maybe be welded, but it looks like it's in an awkward place so a replacement would be best.

Having a look around, it seems the rear beam is over £1000 from Honda.

The part number is different from the standard one (which is much cheaper) but I'm wondering if I could fit a standard one in there?
Does it fit, and if so, would I notice a big handling difference?

Any help or advice appreciated!

Thank you

members on civinfo.com have reported this too.
one has fitted the "standard" beam but added a Whiteline rear ARB to strengthen it, don't know how he has got on with it yet
the main difference between the two versions is the diameter of the torsion bar that runs through he centre, FN2 is 22mm and std is 12mm

Thanks for the reply.

I've done a bit of digging since, and came to the same conclusion.

I've ordered this: https://www.eurosubframes.com/products/new-honda-civic-fn2-mk8-back-axle-05-11-42100-smg-e05
which is based off of the part number for the Type S.

Like you say, it seems the difference will be 10mm in that torsion bar.
I have spoken to the guy who fitted this same beam with the Whiteline reaR ARB and he is having no issues.

In an ideal world, I've have ordered the genuine Honda part, but I would have been looking at about £1100 just for the part and at this moment in time can't justify it but need the car.

Seems the rear of the FN2 really suffers very badly from rust. I've never seen anything like it. :(
I'll update this thread when it's fitted in case anyone else runs into this issue.
