They'd better come up with something good - the new Focus is looking like a class-leader. Better than the GTI, VXR, current CTR, LCR, Clio etc.

And it's only £17k

I know it's still a ST but 17K will be for the entry level one. The top 'dogs danglies' ones gonna be more like 19-20K i think i read the other day in Top Gear mag

Not that big a difference in entry to top of the range. Just the Leather Recaros, Xenon lights and few bits and bobs. Performance will be the same.

No. If anything, the performance will be better on the ones without the extras, less weight.

This is the what car expect depreciation.

Ford Focus Hatchback 2.5T ST 2 3dr........... £18,495--£10,725--£9,223--£7,841--£6,587
Honda Civic Hatchback 2.0 16v Type-R 3dr. £16,950--£13,227--£11,626--£10,125--£8,691

We'lljust have to see how it depreciates...reading the review of thefirst drive on MSN, it looks likely to be a sure favourite with all who drive it. One thing's for sure - it'll feel like a missile to drive with all that torque!

Yeah right-o. If the numbers of supply stay low enough, the demand will keep the price up for sure. Just look at the residuals of the Escort Cosworth. You'll be hard pushed to find a decent Cossie for £10K even now. I reckon the FST will make the CTR depreciate really quickly when it hits the market.
Sorry guys...you know I love Fords. Already priced the ST...looking at ways to make it affordable. Guess I'll be givin' up the fags pretty soon!

ST's don't have the heritage that cosworths and RS's have, thus they'll drop in price like those Astra VXR things!

You can't get any type R for under about £5k.

The good news is as follows. 8)

Honda will have had the chance to see what is available on the market and at what price. Bearing this in mind the new CTR should be capable of re-writing the headllines when our Japanese kin releasae the package.

By all accounts the new civic (from those I know who have driven it) say that it's chassis is so much more improved, very responsive. Prefering to stay away from the 'lets up the power and torque' approach of certain manufacturers. Though having said that Ford is not one of them...the Focus' strong point has always been it's chassis. IMHO. So when the new CTR is out then we can compare. Till then it is all just speculation. I am looking forward to see where it's going of course.

The problem with the new ST is that it is very nose heavy.

Plus the powerband is not to everyones liking. Peak tourque is from 1600 through 4000 rpm, then from what I read it kind of runs out of steam.

I prefer the current CTR over it, and I am sure Honda will come up trumps with the new model.

Has anyone here actually driven an ST or the GTI or the WRX? :?

I just love it when people just Regurgitate what they hear on tv and read in magazines without actually having an opinion of their own!!! :x

Yes in my case. I have a Scooby STI and a CTR. Have driven a Golf GTI and a wrx, helps working for the 'magazines' of course. Not driven an ST yet which is why I put the bit in my reply about speculation. I will ad there are a pretty open minded bunch here on the whole and many of us have a wide range of experience of differing cars.

Still it is our nature to discuss and predict what a new car may be like, surely part of the fun of it all. :)

Driven the Gti, nice car but too pricey, CTR has more character.

Seen the ST in action...

Plus I did state what I had read in magazines.

tbh the new Focus bores me something serious and the fact that it has 'ST' in the name does nothing for me.

I've driven an GTI and I was seriously bored! I need to be able to get excited about the car I'm driving - this applies to both the WRX STI and CTR (obviously I own the CTR and the STI was a test drive).

Unfortunately, Ford = Boredom. Ford are very well built, but they are dead...
