FN2 Front right lower ball joint?!?

Hello all,

I’m new here, pleased to meet you all.

Going to be working on my brother-in-law’s 2009 FN2 Type R (probably more often now that the years are getting on ...and his warrantee is long gone). He tells me that his front right lower ball joint needs replacing and he needed help sourcing it out. I’ve found an online catalogue of parts to try to get a part number but to my surprise there was no part number for just the ball joint , it suggested that you had to buy the whole piece in one go. After checking high and wide for just the ball joint I have only managed to find the trailing arm bushing of the control arm sold separately (Meyle), but STILL no ball joint He checked with the stealers and they (of course) verified the fact the you got to get the whole lower control arm although the exploded view of the component suggests that it is removable (as indicated by a c-clip sitting right on top of it to keep it in place).

Question is, does anyone know if the ball joint can be obtained separately? It is a difference between spending maybe €30 for the ball joint as compared to spending €300 for the whole setup. I know that the control arm is shared with the FK but, unless anyone is fluent in Japanese, I'm pretty sure that it’s a bit of a dead end for me...Could this ball joint be shared with Acura?

Any ideas, suggestions or insight would be appreciated. Thanks for reading! :)

Since a majority of the parts only come from Honda, yes it's quite common for Honda that you'll only be able to buy it as part of the whole kit and not the ball joint itself.

Assuming this is where you have looked?

Part numbers will confirm or dispute whether it is a shared part.

Failing Euro Car Parts or BCC doing their own ball joint part on its own, then it'll be a breakers job, eBay or plump for the whole lot.

You could try Cox, Hendy and Tegiwa in the traders section to see if you can get it any cheaper from them.

Thanks a bunch Loxy.

As mentioned, I scoped out a parts catalogue (not the best definition...your link is much better!) and was only able to pull out the lower control arm, c-clip and dust boot cover part number but a Google and eBay search came out with the whole piece and one hit for the trailing arm bushing, normally if there are any associated parts you can come up with something. I also gave a quick search for the c-clip and another for the dust boot cover, using the part numbers, and came up with American Hondas, S2000's and Acuras but, obviously enough, that's not much of indication of compatibility although it does sow a seed for a glimmer of hope..... I find it somewhat unlikely that they'll make an extra special ball joint just for this model, saying that, anything is possible.

I'll give your traders links a go. Cheers for the response. :smt023

It does yes. If you put their internal part number in the part number search however, it does come back with the Honda part number!

Or take the _pfk out of the URL of the part diagram page, that does the trick.
