EP3 Gearbox feels loose

Messages

Hi guys a little help if you can.
A week ago I changed the clutch in my ep3 and it was sweet as a nut. Now it has started to feel wrong. It's difficult to explain but the gearbox feels loose and I get a slight judder when selecting gear sometimes in 2nd. It doesn't feel tight
Reverse feels strained.
The geabox itself feels clunky and 1st is difficult to engage.
Might this possibly be gearbox or engine mounts? Or can you think of anything?
any thoughts?
thanks in advance.

The first things I'd check is the engine mounts and the gear selector on top of the gearbox.
Make sure everything is tight and greased up. Check the selector cables. These wore out on my DC5, luckily for you, EP3's are everywhere. The airbox might also be fouling the selector.

Then I would take it back to them.

Do you like throwing money away? A decent specialist would have charged half as much and would have done a better job by the sounds of it.

still are humans, humans make mistakes. they fixed it so go back and let them sort it out.

It's back in today. I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens.
I would love to take it to a specialist but I live in Milton Keynes, and as far as I can tell there are no specialists around here. Does anyone know of any in this area?

Ok, so Honda had the car back and gave it a good check over. They say all is good and one of the best examples they have seen.
I thought I'd give it a week just to let things settle.
I think it's worse, my car to me drives terrible. Gears are very notch in first second, not smooth. Reverse gear is hard to disengage. Also the noise when reversing, it's very loud whining/grinding noise.
Its just not a very nice experience.
Do you think gearbox oil change might help?

Try oil first indeed, use honda mtf nothing else. if that dont solve it your tranny needs a rebuild.

At this stage i would be going back to Honda for one more try. Ask the dealer if they mind taking it for a test drive. Then you tag along in the car also to see how the guy drives and what experience he gets first hand. I have done this before with dealers. Hopefully then they will have it back in again and investigate deeper as its probably related to recent work.

Failing that try and find someone with an ep3 local to you and ask them to drive it for opinion. I have done this before too, its gold getting a 2nd opinion from another type-R owner - who would be more sensitive to any issue than most. I would like to help but being in worcester you are 2 hours drive from me.

Thanks ninja.
Well I got a second opinion yesterday. Whilst in for service and MOT. They say it seems like my flywheel. Wouldve thought Honda Wouldve checked that and told me.
Only had the car a month and a bit and already starting to fall out of love with it. I'm gutted. The list of observations is huge!!!
