Grinding noise at 3500 rpm

Hey guys

I've got a strange problem with my EP3 that I can't seem to get my head around so I thought I'd pick the brains of some of you lot.

Basically when my car revs at 3500 rpm it makes a strange grinding sound from the front of the car. Now this happens at any time so includes driving whilst in any gear and also parked up whilst in neutral just revving the engine. I am a little low on oil and will be doing an oil change on the car later this week but does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? Below is a video I recorded to try to demonstrate the sound. You have to turn up the volume quite a bit as its recorded on my old iPhone so is a bit crappy quality!

Thanks in advance folks!

sounds like the manifold heatshield although mine didnt do it stationary only when driving , yours may be looser than what mine was.. just whip it off anyway

Turns out it was the heatshield on the cat. It was pretty much falling off and rusted to bits! Problem sorted now and driving like it should :)

Thanks for the responses guys!

I've just bought a Civic Type-R, and mine was making this exact noise at around 3500 rpm at low speeds (30mph ish). I'm SO glad I found this thread, I was bricking it that it might be the gearbox that was dodgy.

Thanks a lot!
