Gruppe M how much POWER

Messages

Hey iv just ordered my gruppe m it comes wednesday and cant wait to fit it. People on here all boast about how much power is actually gained. well how much is that in torqe or BHP? any one got ant dyno slips they can show??? cheers guys

8-10 bhp, some people have seen around the 12bhp mark. Torque will increase also but ever so slightly, 3-5ft lbs maybe. I warn you though VTEC will become seriously addictive for the first week. Just make sure you take your time and fit it right, alot of people including myself have the rattling problem which can be sorted with a few teaks

This shows the gain I had with a Gruppe M over the OEM airbox.
Both runs on the same dyno, but different days. No other mods were different....

Not at all, I have fitted 4 in my time.

The first time was to my own EP3, I took my time, did some research and didnt overtighten anything first time round. It fitted like a glove first time off and was great all the up until I removed it two years later.

Excellent piece of kit. Induction porn.

im after a gruppM, where did you order it from, and do they brake the bank to buy one...

didnt realise how much of a gain and how good these seem to be, are they much better than just a Air filter induction kit?

Gruppe M is the gold standard for K20 air induction. ARC and J's intake are also pretty good. AEM CAI gives good gains, but having the filter low down means potential havoc for hydrolock.

The open cone filters in the engine bays (K&N Typhoon, Blitz, AEM short ram) will sound ok, but the power gains will be minimal due to heat soak etc. I'm sure people who own these will contest the matter, but until you've had the gold standard, you don't know what you're missing out on.

Martin 09, with how the roads flood in the Saffron Walden area I wouldnt even contemplate the AEM CAI.

Curious -- other than the noise, is the car different to drive? Do you very definitely know you have a GM? I guess what I'm asking is, can you feel the extra 10 bhp?

My car felt noticeably different.
It's not the BHP, but the additional torque you can feel. The noise adds to it also.

gruppe m scuttle panel

on the guide to fitting the gruppe m on here it says to use the original scuttle panel because the one provided rattles? has any one fit this pannel without any problems or do you all also agree to cut out the origanal panal????? tips would be greatful guys and also in the instructions it says in bad rain to close the inlet how is this achieved ???

Mod the OEM scuttle panel as the GM will only get progressively more annoying as it rattles (particulary bad on the motorway).
To do it yourself is relatively easy, all you need is the how to thread, basic DIY skills and a bit of time. You can still use the GM scuttle panel whilst the original one is off the car being doctored.

As regards closing the inlet in bad weather, I think the instructions mean taking the scoop off so water could potentially flow down the windscreen into the airbox. Cover their 'legal' a$s statement methinks.
As long as the scoop is on there is zero chance of enough water getting in to do any damage.
