Hi guys,
I was wondering whether you can help. My car failed the MOT yesterday due to "offside and nearside (brake) cable having restricted free movement"
I went this to get this diagnosted, and the (independent) garage advised me that the caliper arm is not resting where it should when the handbrake is down, due to not being enough movement in the cable. He also mentioned that one side was worse than the other and this resulted in one of the brake discs being much hotter than the other.
Here is the arm that they were referring to:
So they tried to unslacken the handbrake nut by rear centre console to see if makes any difference, made a little difference but not much, as now the handbrake cable goes to about 9-10 clicks - which is a bit much. They suggested that I get a new set of calipers..... is this right? is this the most cost effective method now.
So what the next course of action? Buy a rear set of calipers? or go TGM/garage to diagnose issue first ie see if rewinding the pistion and investigating the caliper first before forking out on a pair of rear calipers?
Thoughts anyone, would really appreciate any advice. Member in need of help.
