Induction Kit For FN2

Currently the Mugen airbox with the Mugen cold air feed from the fog light. Will set you back over £1k all in.

If you are dead set on a cold air feed then the GruppeM is a good option but they don't always make the best gains on the FN2. They cost around £800.

Cheap and cheerful and highly effective is the HKS Racing Suction Kit. Gets really good gains, around the same as the Mugen but no cold air feed though so can suck in warm air from the engine bay if sat in traffic. Costs around £400.

Does anyone have any figures on the HKS kit and the Gruppe M to compare, am looking at getting a kit, don't really want to pay as much as the gruppe M but will if it means I am not wasting my money on the HKS one.

The gains will be pretty much the same on the Gruppe M annd HKS Racing Suction Kit.

Both are very free flowing and when the car is travelling will pull in the same velocity of air and intake temps won't differ enough to make a great deal of difference. The Gruppe M may make another 1BHP or so, but nothing noticeable or repeatable on a dyno etc.

This is a graph for the HSK, I don't have one for the Gruppe M on the same rollers. It is also worth noting that standard FN2s make anywhere between 208 and 214 on this dyno.

The only difference you will notice with the HKS and Gruppe M will be initial pick-up if you have been sat in traffic and then bury the throttle. The Gruppe M having a cold air feed, although only really effective when moving, will have slightly better throttle response off the line than the HKS. As soon as both cars get moving and air flows in from the engine under-tray, the HKS is back to normal.

For this reason, personally I wouldn't spend the extra money for the Gruppe M. You can pick up second hand HKSs for around £260-280 now. Seriously good kit for the money and you get the benefit that is sounds like this:

I hadn't driven the car for a week before last Saturday and I had forgotten how savage it sounds when you are caning it.
