Intake temperatures

Messages

Hi people,
Can anyone tell me what intake temperatures they are getting. My top radiator hose was touching the intake pipe sending them soaring. I have now heat wrapped the hose and put some distance between them. The temperatures are still high. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks, Davie.
modded EP3. :)

I used to get 8C above ambient when moving on my setup. It's been 29C here today so I'd guess that would have put it up in the high 30s.

How are you reading your intake temps? Data logging on Kpro?

Hey Loxy,

I have an R-VIT monitor which tells me what the temperatures are. Were your temps still the same when moving? Mine drop down very slowly, but as soon as you stop they shoot up.
It doesnt run right with the high temps. Is this a map issue?

Thanks
Davie.

My intake temps used to go up when I stopped. It all depends on what kind of intake you have. If it's an open cone one that sits in the engine bay, then it will only be able to suck in hot air from the engine bay. When you are stopped there isn't any airflow through the engine bay and it gets worse.

Has your car been remapped?

The car will start pulling ignition with high intake temps in an attempt to prevent knock. So if it was mapped on a cold day it can struggle when it gets really hot. OEM ECU can feel like it loses power too because of the ignition change.

Here we go:- I have a gruppe m into a gasflowed throttle body and gasflowed rbc manifold. Stage 2 crower race cams, kpro, DC sports 4-2-1 decat and a Skunk 2 megapower rr. The intake hose seems to soak up the heat. Would running a cold air feed directly under the sensor reduce temps quicker?

The sensor needs to be reading what's going into your intake manifold, otherwise you're not giving the ECU the right information and you are risking detonation.

The setup you describe sounds fine though. Who mapped it? Ask for a map tweak now the weather as come warmer.

What are your intake temps out on interest?

The temps are in the thirties. I thought, when moving the air would be cooler. The hose still stays hot. The feed directly to the hose would give more accurate readings to what is getting sucked in by cooling it down. It was AR tunning in Perth that mapped it.

Intake temps in the thirties? I'm not being funny bud, but have you looked outside?!

Just take it back to the tuner and ask for a tweak.

The intake hose will get hot, it's heat transfer from the engine bay and inlet manifold.

I have spoken to the guy and he is going to have a look. I know the outside temp is hot.
I wasn't sure what kind of temps people were getting. I didn't think it would get as hot with
the low temp stat that's in it. She only runs at between 67-69 Celsius. Usual running temp
is about 80. What kind of power do you think she will putting out. Haven't been on a dyno yet.

Did you not get a printout when it was mapped or was it not mapped on a dyno?

I think you'd be looking at around 260 at the fly maybe more with those mods.
