Is this normal or is my control broke

Ok owned my ctr for 3 weeks now & noticed something strange with my heater controls, I had my heater temp(middle control) about halfway & had position knob(top control) set to windscreen/demist setting and i wanted it to come through front vents & feet so i switched it down without any problems , Then i put it back onto windscreen setting & when i did my aircon switch light illuminated i did this several times moving it from windscreen setting down on all different positions of air flow & temps but only when i put it back to windscreen position & no other it turned my aircon switch light on every time is this normal or do you think i have a problem as i have no idea !
might i also add my aircon dosn't seem to be blowing cold even with aircon light on could this button/switch be faulty or could that just be an aircon re-gass needed ? any help with this appreciated.

It's normal. It turns the aircon on to speed up the demisting of the windscreen.

Your aircon not blowing cold could be a number of things. You could do with taking it to an aircon specialist to test it for leaks, check the pump etc. or just take a punt and get it re-gassed.

+1 Cheery Loxy, I just noticed this - before I thought it was just me turning on the A/C then forgetting about it.. Then saw it happen today and was able to reproduce it - temp set to the hottest, speed set to the lowest without being off, moved the control from windscreen to feet, then back to windscreen/feet or windscreen (cant remember) and it turns on the A/C. Glad I found this :p, thought it was a bug!

Yeah this is normal. Some companies who specialize in air con will come to you now to re-gas, service the aircon system. My Sister used a company called Autocool who came to her house, they were good although I haven't used them myself. Search the web for companies who do this near you.

get it re-gassed first/pressure checked by specialists. i got a uv pen torch thing off flebay (showed up the dye for the leaking pump on her mk2 focus) to check for leaks after cleaning etc. was under tenner i think but does it what i need it to
