Knocking noise

Hi guys i have a 02 ep3 when i start it from cold i get a really quick knocking noise come from the engin bay, it only last's a couple of seconds. So you start the engin it it knocks as it revs high the stops within seconds.

Any ideas

Not heard that one before, have you looked under the hood? Rev the engine using the throttle cable and see if you can locate the knocking noise. Otherwise just take it back to honda.

Whats the mileage of the car and when was it last serviced?

Its done 70 thousand, was serviced 5 months ago.

Mine does this but it is my engine torque damper, so I know what it is, I've modded the car by putting it on so I'm not bothered about it.

If you don't have one it could be the left hand engine mount allowing excess travel on start and therefore generating the knock as the engine turns on is mounts.

Check it for corrosion on the rubber, good thread/pics here, respect to Ads:

Note the washer bottle filler for the mount's location if you don't know where it is.

Hey there Fella,

Just out of interest, I have the same problem and I've been told that its due to the starter motor starting to show signs of its age.
I've got an 51 plate EP3 and its does it to me when its cold. Its not too bad, but like you said when its very cold and damp, knock knock Knock!Been advised if it starts doing every time I start the car then I should get it changed. Its about £450 from Honda garage.
