Low revs grinding noise on my new purchase! Help

Just bought my first type r 05 plate cosmic grey 1 owner full history 80000 miles and it's mint

I bought from a ford dealer so I have warranty which I think I'm gonna need!.. My car makes a grinding/vibrating noise in 1st 2nd 3rd 4th not the last two bang on 2000 rpm I've checked all heat shields and engine cover with no luck. I only have 15 days warranty left and my local Honda can't see the car for another week and my local garage are 99% sure it's a gearbox issue! I've searched and searched the web to shed some light and I've found others with the same problem but no one seems to provide the answer of what it is. could anyone suggest a possible cause for this noise?

Mine has done this since i bought it early 2010, *** done nearly 30k miles including trackdays without any issues if that reassures you. I've read posts where others have suspected the clutch release bearing and changed it with no joy.

Thanks for the reassurance mate! It's just such a s^*t noise almost embarrassing I know people have trice varies things such as the clutch plate spring etc but while I had warrenty id like it sorted its a 250 mile trip to take it back so I'm trying to get it diagnosed locally first it's driving me mad

it's not the nicest noise i agree, If it's under warranty then you'd be daft not to let them check it out but i wouldn't hold my breath on them solving it.

Sounds like input shaft bearing. Either that or driveshaft heat shield. Check my thread for a fix. You'd need to get under the car to see this one. Also heat shields may not feel loose but even the smallest tolerance will sound horrendous when the engine is running.

To be honest I would wait until it's broke but do make some enquiries as to what you should do. I recognise the noise but don't know when you should think about fixing it. I had a quote of around 600 for a rebuild with new synchros and bearings. Not too bad but still pricey. Mine makes a ticking noise occasionally which I believe to be the input shaft or release bearing although no one can tell me which of the two it is. I don't get the grinding noise though. But if you google 'wookie noise from civic gearbox' it will display results that confirm the grinding noise being the isb.

Ps. Sometimes mine makes no noise. Put new oil in the gearbox as a starting point and see how she goes. If it ain't broke don't spend money on it!

So I've just returned from honda and after 4 technicians and 2 service managers under my car they have told me the problem is either the clutch or gearbox so the car is being picked up Monday by the ford garage I brought it from they are gonna start by replacing the clutch and if it doesn't solve it the box will have to be split.

I'm sure I have seen ads for honda gearbox refurbishments on a certain web site.
Not sure in total costs but I recon it would be worth it for piece of mind.(if they are a gearbox specialist)
and give it a hamerite paint treatment while she's off.

I would shot blast it rather than paint as paint looks pikey and peels eventually.

I would guess it's the isb. Either that or crb. Please update this when you know buddy. Good luck :)

Yeah no probs I'm taking the car back Monday for them to start looking at it and I get a ford in return for god knows how long!!... At least I could get a new clutch and box though fair swap! Lol

You shot blast prior to painting. So if you dont want it painted , just clean the hell out if it, would look nice.
How is painting a gearbox pikey?

So far my gearbox has been sent to a specialist possible isb and they will throw a clutch in for me too so it's looking good so far

Box has been at jam tech Birmingham and diagnosed with input shaft bearing knackered so all done under warrenty sweet
