metal polish?

not sure if this is the correct section but does anybody know whats the best way to polish up aluminium?
i am making myself a footrest for my ctr to go with my mugen pedals but i have scratched the plate when making it

autosol about £5 a tube from halfords, this is what i use on the gear knobs to make the brushed finish a polished finish http://type-r-owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=53293 just look at the results

Brillo pad/ pan scourer for a nice brushed finish

Metal polishes tend to leave a black trail on aluminium plate. Though cleaned up again should be ok.

I've done this with some Clio 172 footrests I made.

Yeah, should think so, its essentially the same thing, though depends of grade of the wire wool.

i agree with autosol, did a great job at cleaning up my exhaust. cheap aswell

wire wool is too harsh and will scratch it if you need some thing harsher use 1500 wet & dry followed by auto sol i did this on my exhaust and its like a mirror now

I used #00 wire wool on my exhaust to get the black crap off it. Bit of Autosol after and it looked brand new
