Mikey81's - 2008 S2000

Hey Mike, your S2000 looked great in M&S/Tesco's car park today :)

Mine was the dirty looking silver Impreza WRX parked next to you.

:) I only parked there for obvious reasons, I saw the other s2k from the road as I drove past. Both my fiancé and I noticed that there was a space between the cars and said it's bound to be a car person

Time to update the CTR info a bit.

A few months back I stopped at TGM to get the engine mount sorted during a lunch time break, it's been going for a while so I got that swapped to hopefully minimise any damage while waiting to do the clutch.

In April the front pads were swapped for new ones i had bought previously and I had the brake and clutch fluid changed at the same time. You can guess that TGM did the work by this point ;)

4 new tyres were fitted at the beginning of May. Decided to go for Kumho KU39 as I used to have the KU31 on my old M5, they had enough grip and we're quite predictable.

The clutch has been getting worse for a few months but we put it off as we were getting married, it was struggling a bit with high revs in 3rd to 4th gear so change driving style to suit and it was no real issue for daily use. Well we got married on Saturday, so the car was booked into TGM today and it now has a new OEM clutch fitted. Mileage is 96k. The clutch is really light and feels quite jerry but I think that's just going between 2 cars and getting used to it again. I'm now considering taking the CTR on a track day to have a battle with a couple of mates with FN2 and clio 182's

S2000 update

Not alot has happened apart room the usual driving it and keeping it topped up with v-power. Mileage is now 51k

The rear wheels seem to be getting a bit warm on longer drives but the brakes are not binding at all so I have ordered a laser thermometer to identify where the heat is coming from. The hub nuts have already been tightened to the newer tighter recommendations so I may be swapping both bearings soon if that's the source of the heat

Another S2k update

4 new tyres fitted today, went for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.
Decided to get 225 on the front as i wanted a little more front end grip but i don't want to change the suspension as i use the car as my daily.
Mileage is now just over 51k

Decided to order now Honda discs and pads all round this morning for the S2k.

If all goes to plan and I still have some money towards mid June I'm hoping to book another track day :)

New OEM discs and pads are now sat under my desk at work. I wanted to have them waiting, so I can abuse the current ones and learn more about my new tyres and get them swapped in mid June so I get chance to bed them in nicely for a trackday in July.

Today bit of an impulse buy. Kenwood KSC-SW11 under seat sub purchased and fitted. It will never really replace a proper sub but it does ok :) after spending a bit of time playing with the headunit settings the standard speakers do an ok job. I dont fancy removing door cards or cutting the rear panels for speakers, yet.

The brakes haven't felt as good over the last week or so, which meant that today i fitted the oem discs and pads I had sat under my desk. Mileage is now just over 52,500. The fronts were on it from when I bought it so over 17k of my use, a track day and a solo and they still had about 4-5mm left but upon removing the pad there was a small cracking down the centre of the pad.

On my ep3 I had to drill 6 of the 8 retaining screws so I recently bought an impact wrench. This time 7 undid perfectly but 1 got chewed up, so a couple of seconds with the angle grinder got the disc free.

The brake pedal feels alot better and I have only taken it down the road. The fluid was changed in April so shouldn't need touching again for a while :)

Hey Mike, that was me talking to Tom and leaving when you turned up today and ask if you needed to move. Only realised when I saw the S2000 :)

S2k update.

Last 3 days I have been blasting round the lake district :) car has been great as always. Some of the roads up there are really good, if you get the chance go for it.

Mileage is now at 53,500 miles so I have done a mid service oil and filter change today.

I have oulton park booked for the 5th August.

I fitted the new oem pads and discs not that long ago but they didn't seem to have the same initial bite as the ones I took off so I have ordered a set of ferodo DS2500 pads for the front and rear. Hopefully I will get them fitted tomorrow.

I tend to spend a lot of time at TGM picking up bits and pieces, I'm sure he gets bored of me turning up but I tend to always leave with something :)

Ferodo DS2500 fitted this morning. I have only bedded them in so far but I can see why people get them! I thought the oem was good before but it has made me realise how lightly I was braking at bedford. Will see how I change my driving at Oulton Park.*

A little write up of our 'mini-moon'.

I've wanted to go to the Lake District to stay for a few days and have a look/drive around. We were looking around and as we were planning on taking the dog finding a suitable B&B it was getting more and more expensive to stay anywhere nice, so we had a look around and rented a house instead which turned out to be slightly cheaper as well.

The house was in the grounds of Irton Hall, which is on the western edge of the lake district.

Had a lovely drive over the Hardnott Pass to get to Ambleside for breakfast at the apple pie cafe, food was great and the drink kept the Mrs happy.

Ventured over to Windermere which is also very nice and relaxing, well until the jets doing their training flew over (sadly not great pics)

Went to the drunken duck inn for lunch, if your over that way the food was great.

The car was perfect and made me appreciate it even more

That will do for now :) hope your not asleep yet if you read this

Checked the brake pads were ok before the track day on Tuesday, give it a polish as well :)

Next week should be interesting, Wales on Monday, Oulton Park Tuesday, Lake District Wednesday and Thursday, best bit I'm being paid for it as well.

I took a couple of pics after cleaning it, still scrubs up well considering I have done 18k in just over the year I have had it :)

The car does keep surprising me, even after a year of ownership.

This week i have been from Hampshire to Aberystwyth, Oulton Park, Workington and back to Hampshire. The car is comfortable for a long motorway or a-road run and is also great fun on a track :)

This is the first proper UK track i have done, Bedford was great but in the back of your mind there are such big run off areas it doesn't feel like a racing circuit. I know that Oulton Park is known for having a couple of corners which can bite back but luckily the weather stayed dry all day. The Goodyear tyres are a big improvement over the original Bridgestones, imo, BUT they can't hack that many laps before getting too hot and starting to struggle, if i continue doing track days i will look for a second set of alloys.

I went with a mate (Clio 182), his dad and his uncle (Elise 135), managed to get a garage when we arrived.

I managed to get a few passenger laps in the Elise, it is very nicely set up with Ohlins adjustable suspension, Yoko AD048R tyres and uprated brakes. That was an eye opener at where i was slow on track, but the bucket seats are harnesses give you soo much more feeling about what is happening.

The only casualty was the Clio, sadly the drivers side rear wheel bearing decided to give way on the exit of druids, luckily we managed to get to the side of the track with no damage or spinning.

I only had the gopro on for 1 of my outings, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6t2RexsroY&feature=youtu.be

I would love to do another day at Oulton Park, i just wish it was a little closer.

Not alot has happened recently with the, just been using it.

Mileage is now upto 56k
I have wanted to fit an oil pressure and temperature gauge in the car for a while to keep an eye on things, but im not a huge fan on having pods on the dash. That left me with limited options.

I settled on an SPA dual gauge so i only have to find space for 1 gauge. I then found a spare drivers side vent for sale so picked that up to butcher it so i could mount the gauge in that but keeping the original. I also ordered a mocal sandwich plate for the sensors. I also used a new oil filter as i wasn't going to re-use the old one and its been about 3,000miles since the last oil change so not needed yet.

I fitted it last weekend and it wasn't too bad, apart from me having a bad back at the moment. I have checked it after every journey for leaks and the pressures are staying fairly consistant so i am happy with the outcome.

Quick pic of the 'install' first is idle after my 3.5mile drive to work this morning. The second is a few seconds later with a few revs.

I also managed to get my name down to do an autosolo this weekend, i do enjoy doing them but that is only going to happen if my back doesn't give me greif before then.

I competed in another FDMC Autosolo last weekend. It was the last of the year for the club but my first and only autosolo this year as i have done a couple of track days and try to limit my spending a 'bit'. As it was the last one there were 55 people that signed up for it, so it was always going to be tight.

I managed to get 9th overall and came 3rd in my class, very happy with that result considering my car has nothing changed on it
apart from the tyres.

I have uploaded my videos as always. I know i can/should drive smoother but it is fun chucking the car around.
