My first Type R FK8

Purchased my first Type R FK8 back in July 2024. Absolutely lovin it! :D
Took it on a road trip to Holland in August 2024 to visit family. While there I took it on the Autobahn in Germany to open it up! :D

Travelled all the way to Scotland to get it which is a 1250 mile round trip for me. :)

Unfortunately just the other day I noticed some rust bubbling up behind the rear number plate. As the car is now over 6 years old this means I won't be able to do this under Honda's anti-corrosion warranty. :(

Yes this is my first Type R. Also my first ever Honda.

I've now taken it to my local Honda dealership and they said they will sort this for me which they already have. They said it will take about 2 hours, which turned out to be 4 hours in the end. The attached photo below is the repair job.

As you can imagine I'm fuming about the repair job. The rust itself was quite small and I was told it happened due to maybe a small stone rubbing on the paint behind the number plate. My previous number plate was quite large and since getting the repair done I now have a regular sized number plate on the car.

My car is going back to Honda next week where they have said they need the car the whole day to do this properly. I have no idea why they just didn't do this the first time instead of the awful quick fix they did the first time.

That sucks, I hope they sort it properly. That looks like they've just sanded it down and used touch up paint. No excuse really.

How are you finding the car overall? Any more future plans for it?

I'm loving the car. It's such a joy to drive. First car I've ever had where random people will just come along and take photos.

Maybe I'll change the splitters to be full fibre carbon.

Also may swap out the original Honda exhaust system with a 3rd party one. I am liking the look of the Invidia exhaust.

That's so good to hear, Its so nice when other people appreciate a car you like. I think Honda have done a great job of developing the Type R as time has gone on. I want one the future for sure.

I still like the old school Honda's, got a soft spot for them and still love my NA EP3, but I agree the development has been great, I have been a passenger around a track in an FK2 and that was superb, I would love to drive the FK2/8 just to feel for myself how they have developed though, anyone brave enough to hand me their keys for an hour

Update on repair job by Honda.

This is the best they can do they said. I will need to take it to a body shop to get it flawless.
I will contact my local body shop in the next few days and get a quote.

Still haven't got around to contacting my local body shop regards rust repair.

But in the meantime I've done a full paint decontamination and ceramic treatment to my car.

The paint is like glass now.
