Ny Nighthawk Black Facelift EP3

Messages

Hi Guys & Gals

Well finally got around to uploading some pics of my new car. I've had this since the beginning of January this year.

Quick Details:

54 Plate (facelift)
FSH (part honda/part honda specialist)
63k
Non AC version
Mods that came with it:
  • AEM V2 intake;
  • Aftermarket backbox (unknown make);
  • Xenons;
  • Professionally tinted windows;
  • Drilled & grooved discs all round (possibly EBC); and a
  • Kenwood Head Unit
All in all its fairly standard and has been really well looked after, looks amazing when clean but keeping it clean is another story! Just had a service done which included clutch, brake and transmission fluid change. Also gave it a full detail (clay bar/polish/gloss/sealant etc) before the photos were taken.

Parts I've bought to go on:

Exedy OEM Clutch
Competition Clutch lightweight flywheel
Skunk2 Inlet manifold with thermal gaskets.

Future plans & parts to get next:

FRSU
4 x Yokohama Advan AD08
B Pipe - probably sportex silenced version (if a used good condition Spoon one comes up in the meantime I might be tempted!)
Tegiwa 4-2-1 manifold header
Kpro
Tuned by TDI South
HEL braided brake lines
Ferodo DS2500 pads
Eiback Pro Kit Lowering Springs

Aspirations:
240/250bhp NA

Thanks for looking. Any thoughts, comments or questions welcome!

Nice motor, nhb looks awesome when clean but dont last long! haha

Some good plans might want to put a fast road setup at the top, imo should be the first mod also looks like a piper backbox

Very nice! Love the look of mine when it's that clean, but as you said, keeping it that way is not fun :)

I've had mine for over a year now and still not sick of looking at it. Enjoy

Thanks Mike, I remembered FRSU as soon as i posted, its definitely on the list! Thanks for the heads up on the backbox, it' a bit too loud for my liking so might have to change it, however it does suit the car.

Thanks buddy and I can imagine! Its a pain keeping it like that, its been washed twice a week, most weeks, as it looks terrible when its dirty! And doesn't it get dirty quickly?! But by far the best colour imo when its clean.

Looks lovely mate, best colour too ;)

Thanks Pete, I really like what you've done to your car! Is the list on your OP (on your car thread) all the mods to date? Or have you done more to get 255bhp? I almost decided to go with the japspeed manifold based on your recommendations in other threads but i really like the sound of the tegiwa toda copy version, not completely sure yet. 255 is awesome gains and with the decat you're surely be pushing 260+! That's a similar path to what I want to go down but I might not take it to the cam stage... We'll see.

TWICE A WEEK!!? Fair play. The best I can hope for is every Sunday but not recently due to either rain, snow or just freezing cold weather. So much satisfaction after a good clean up though. I've got a R8BYB B-Pipe on mine at the mo, gives a good raspy note at low revs and screams when you give it some. Used to have a jperformance jap can on the back and it was just too loud for me too really. A Cheeky b-pipe mod is more social and subtle.

Thanks Markyy yours looks great too! Which b pipe you got on yours?

I bought my b-pipe from a guy who custom makes them over on CTRO. His username is r8byb. It was less than half the price of the supersprint alternative. :)

Haha yeh even when it was freezing but last week I didn't bother and thought sod it let it look dirty! Unfortunately come Sunday it was closer to cosmic grey then nhb!

Cheers for the recommendation I've tried looking for that b pipe but not getting much on it though, is it discontinued now?

Currently having another headache over which manifold to go with. I'd finally convinced myself the decat option was worth going with but now I've seen the piper manifold and see you can switch between a decat section and sports cat, which would be ideal but does that come as a sacrifice to potential gains over other manifold?

Cheers buddy, yes mate I updated the mods list a couple of weeks ago so everythings listed as the car is at the moment.
I was going to go with the Tegiwa manifold but the Japspeed seemed the better option, it really is a steal mate, it doesnt require a JDM ARB and when mapped it made pretty much 10bhp which bang for buck is good where Honda's are concerned.

The cams really are a great piece of kit mate but it you went k100, induction kit, intake manifold and full decat exhaust system I think you would still be looking at 240bhp plus.

Look forward to following your build :)

Cheers dude shame you don't live closer, I wouldn't mind seeing how quick it is! Between 240 and 250 would be bless, I'd bee more than happy with that. This was supposed to be a stop gap while I saved up for another M3 but knowing how much they guzzle fuel I think I will stick with the Civic for a while. You can tell your getting old when you start considering mpg!!

The thing with the cams is they don't give a massive amount of extra power and they're not cheap either. I dropped some in my VR6 when i had it and I made close to extra 25bhp which was definitely good value for money. How much did you pay for the tdi cams out of interest and how much roughly did you gain from them?

Noticed on your car thread you said you get launch control with the K100. Thought it was just the kpro that came with that feature?

Where abouts do you live mate? there's a mini TRO meet planned for this Sunday at Santapod (its a RWYB calendar event) dont know how far away that would be for you but you would get a chance to put a few faces to names and see some nice motors.
I made 232bhp with an injen cai, rbc intake manifold, stainless steel cat back system and K100, even that totally transformed the car buddy and thats with retaining the OEM manifold and cat so there's loads of different levels you can opt for.

Haha yeah its quite bad when you start keeping one eye on the fuel gauge, I imagine an M3 is really thirsty but the Type R can be if your constantly hitting 8k, my mate bought an M3 convertible last summer lovely looking motor was planning on using it for a europe run this year.

The cams were £1500 supplied, fitted and dyno tuned by TDI North and made around 15bhp which sounds a lot but it did totally transform the car pal, it pulled like an absolute train on the journey home, unfortunately K20's are not cheap to tune :(

You will get launch control with both K100 and Kpro, they are basically the same thing I think the only difference is that Kpro has a plug in where you can datalog and adjust certain settings, I went with K100 which doesnt have that option which is fine for me as I wouldnt want to mess with that stuff myself anyway haha.
Launch control is an addictive sound banging off the preset 4000rpm limiter takes you back to feeling 17 again haha.

I'm in southampton. I've had my eye on the Santa pod calendar and Im looking to go a couple of times this year but that sounds like it could be do-able! I think it takes about 2 hours from here so it's within easy reach. I'll see what I can do and get back to you. Would be good to get a benchmark time in whilst the car's still standard and see all your cars :)

That's funny you should say that coz we were gonna head off around Europe in the beemer and then I crashes it, so it didn't happen lol! I've been driving round in a 1.6 Astra since while I saved up for something new, and thats not exactly something you wanna be seen in let alone road trip around the world!! I then had another crash in that, not my fault (honest!) and was for forced to buy what I could with the money I had saved, cue the CTR haha.

1500 is probably a bit out my range but I take it £300 or so of that was for mapping, which if I get all my mods done in one go I can save on any subsequent remaps. How much were just the cams for supplying?

Yeh i bet it does! That's sweet I really wanted the launch control and was considering getting the kpro for it so thats a big bonus! I'm not fussed about the data logging or the ability to adjust the parameters either, I wouldn't know where to start.

Managed to locate the guy on CTRO but he hasn't replied to any posts since last year so doesn't look hopeful otherwise I would of bought one straight away! Looks like i'm gonna go with the sportex one unless someone thinks the supersprint would be better in terms of power increase?

I'm sure the sportex one is fine, I know a few people who are happy with it. Only reason I didn't go for it is I wanted one that was stainless steel rather than mild steel.

Yeh don't this he's around making them anymore which is a shame. Pretty good subtle mod imo. Power gains? None at all from them. I really doubt anything you do from the cat back alone would make any noticeable power gains, just more noise. :)

2 Hours isnt too bad mate it takes me a little under the same coming from the opposite direction, the weather isnt looking too promising for the weekend though with snow and rain forecast but fingers crossed somehow Sunday falls lucky so the guys on here who want to attend can make it, the Japshow is always a good day out too which is held twice a year in June and September.

I bet gutted wasnt the word stacking the BM mate :( it must be the car of choice for european touring haha, to be fair although the astra probably wasnt what you really wanted to be driving about in compared to the BM and Type R it could have been a lot worse lol.
You can pick up a really good deal on a CTR now with how many of them are still about, with the Type R following I would love to find an immaculate one with say 10-20k on the clock stick it in storage for 15-20 years and then see how much its worth.

Yeah I think the mapping sessions at TDI are about £350.00 so the more parts you save to have installed and mapped in one go the cheaper it will work out, to be honest I dont know exactly how much the cams alone would be to buy as the £1500.00 included installing them and mapping. I would roughly say the labour was about four hours so about £260.00 so the cams themselves probably worked out at around £800.

You will really enjoy the launch control pal, its one of those things you wont use all the time but when you do it will make you smile, yeah go for the K100 if your not worried about data logging etc :)
