Paint Care

Hi all,

I replaced the number plates on my Milano Red FK2 yesterday. It had the dealership plates on originally with the black extended bit at the bottom of the plate.

The new plates do not have this extended part and I can see a line where the old plate was. Dirt has obviously got trapped under the extended part of the old plate has left a visible black dirty mark. I have tried to clean it using soap and water and this mark is not going to go away without a fight.

What would you all recommend to try and shift it?

I have paid for the extra paint protection and am worried I will damage this or do further damage to the paint this area.

The pictures are not overly clear but give you and idea.

Had a go with some wd40 followed by some Autoglym super resin polish. I got most of it out but still have a very visible black line. Looks like dust under the plate has damaged the paint. I will have to see a paint specialist I think :(

I've had this on a couple of cars when Ive put my private plates on.
Best course of action would be to use some All Purpose Cleaner, spray on a cloth and wipe over the area.
You may need to give it a little hand polish, and you should put some wax or sealant over the area to protect the paint again.

It will come off.

I use either Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner, or Bilt Hamber Surfex HD.
You could even do what some of the detailing boys do, and get hold of a bottle of Daisy APC from Tesco, about 99p.

The APC should work, if not, try a bit of clay, or tar remover.

Use G3 it will go in seconds with a bit of elbow grease lol then just buff back up with car polish it will be fine

Clay bar & lube, I wouldn't worry about the extra protection, all that is, is a way the sales make up their commission, its crap stuff that's probably sprayed on through a hose, its not worth having but they talk new owners in to needing it

thanks dweezle a couple of people have recommended a clay bar. That sort of thing scares me tbh and i'll be booking in today to see a professional as I don't want to make things worse.

I agree that the stuff they use is not going to last a lifetime, but not that the paint protection is not worth having. It gives you a lifetime guarantee on the paint for £400. And having a Milano Red car in 10 years when my car starts going pink Honda will be paying me back that £400 with interest. I actually watched them start to apply the Scotsguard coating to my car and was impressed with the way that they were preparing the paint. They have also applied the underseal coating which protects the chassis and body from corrosion and that is invaluable on our salty winter roads. The coating they add will last no more that 12 months. The paperwork I have which I went over with a fine tooth comb suggests that Honda will repair any corrosion or paint defect providing the cars service plan is adhered to.

Clay bar is easy, you can't go wrong, keep the surface wet & gently glide over the surface & wash off any residue.
I didn't know about the lifetime guarantee on the paint if you have the paint protection option, that part was never mentioned to me

I've only ever heard of 3 year protection.

Honda do have a 10 year anti-corrosion policy, but that is only corrosion from the inside out and does not cover surface rust or paint defects after 3 years.

I will grab the paperwork and re-check. Having it looked at today.

Alternative is a Jap plate. Saw a thread on here where someone has done it and really like it
