Possible clutch problem?

Hello, this is my first post, hopefully in the right place!! I own a 2003 civic type R. It's done 167000 miles now but still pretty sound. I've recently noticed a scraping sound in the drive train, like a dry worn bearing kind of sound, much worse when reversing! Tonight it has got worse, as in when I depress the clutch pedal, even when in neutral the engine revs dip and even stall the engine. Now originally I thought the gearbox was on the way out, but the change through every gear is smooth. The clutch seems to bite ok too. Also, when I parked it on the drive tonight I could smell the clutch burning. Any help would be much appreciated.

If it's on 167k even on a second clutch it would have had a good innings.

The only other thing that could smell like clutch is your brakes, and if the car hasn't moved then it does point to the clutch.

Shouldn't stall in neutral though, so that does sound a bit worrying. Erratic idle is usually the idle control valve on the throttle body, which it could still be. They get gunked up over time because of the oil breather return into the inlet pipe. Especially prevalent if the car has been stood for any period of time.

Burning clutch smell could be it not disengaging properly when you push the pedal in, but you'd normally have some issues shifting at high rpm though.

Could be the clutch release baring needs replacing as it's not disengauging correctly.
Might be better taking it to a specialist to have a look at.

Thanks guys, I was kinda leaning towards the clutch release bearing. As for the idle valve, it was stood for a while and the revs were very irratic but settled itself. The car was in need of tender loving care when I bought it, just one more thing to put right.
