Power loss and Low rev limit

Hi there, my dad has a JDM honda civic type R rally car. It runs mainly standard JDM with a Hondata Kseries ecu. When on the starting line it flashes the engine management light but does not stay on long. It then shortens the the rev limiter to 7500rpm. The car feels torquey and fast in 1st and 2nd but then on it loses its guts (Power Loss).

Im not sure if its the map on the ecu that is doing this or if its a sensor.
Can someone help me out with this?

Check Oil level mate!
VTEC will feel less strong, engage later, and if really low oil, will really struggle high end!

Otherwise, I'd be looking at O2 sensors.

Have you checked for fault codes? With the eml coming on I'd imagine they'd be some stored code which could give you an indication of the problem

Codes should be stored even if the light clears. ODBC reader should drag them off.
