Rattle from engine when starting from cold

Hi all, I have a 2003 pre facelift ep3 with 88000 on the clock. When the car's been lying or even just starting from cold there is a rattle for less than a second from the engine. It doesn't happen every time, but is fairly common. My thought is that it could be the oil just not getting to the top of the engine straight away. Had a BMW that did similar before.

Just wandering if there was a common fault that it could be?

Have the valve clearances been done?

Also check the ivtec cover isn't touching the intake manifold.
 
I had a rattle on start up, more so from cold.

Ended up being the timing chain and tensioner.

Worth getting it checked out, and quickly.
