rattle on start up

I know this thread has previously been on the forum but I would like to know where to look at i have a rattle on nearly every start up first thing in morning. If I turn key slightly it don't rattle if I turn it as normal I can hear it. I had someone turn the key today can't understand where its coming from either starter or bay but can hear near the middle any signs of anything wrong advice would be great cheers haz.

Turn the key slightly?

Rattle on startup is usually either chain tensioner as oil pressure is low, aux belt tensioner or VTC gear. Could always be the starter. Nigh on impossible to diagnose over the internet, so take it to a decent mechanic and not your normal one.

Well if I turn it slightly it doesn't make noise. But if I turn the key full then it makes the noise I had a friend tell me this turn it slightly and see if it makes noise. Well who will be able to identify the problem when it only makes this noise first thing in morning. Its going in for a health check to Honda shall I mention it to them? And also does oil pressure be low on cold anyway or should it be normal?

Oil pressure should drop as the engine warms up as the oil gets thinner as it gets hotter. So yes it will be higher when cold. Chain area will be a likely culprit so make sure the oil level is spot on.

Oil levels on max when cold and after running car for 1 hour and leaving parked for 10 minutes was on max after few wipes. Will changing the oil from shell helix 5w 40 to Mobil 1 5w 40 make any difference..? And I am using Mann oil filter shall I use hamp filter or genuine filter will this make any difference ?

i can't see the oil making any real difference to be honest. if the oil level is fine and been changed in the last few months i wouldn't do it again but get it checked properly.

Thanks for that and will see a good local mechanic. Otherwise have to take it to a Honda specialist but how will they check if car is up to temperature when the car will turn off and back on it wont make any noise then. This is what the mechanic said to me last time but will have to get the oil pressure checked.

I don't fully understand the Key Bit as Loxy Said. Turning Key slightly

i would see a decent mechanic or specialist who should be able to identify it easy enough. sounds like the the chain or tensioner to me. Starters don't seem to rattle, more of a grind.

As in when I put key on ignition turn it like a tad and hold it there rather than fully turning it if u get what I mean. With the tad turn I don't hear anything its only when I fully turn the key if you get what I mean. I can hear the starter but it does echo around and I'm not sure if its just starter pr bay itself. Happens most times but some days it don't thats why I think it could be starter motor. Will have to get it checked. I can remember a friend having this problem he took his car to 2 specialists and they turned out saying its nothing.

Found a video on youtube this is exactly what happens to my car the second noise is starter but don't understand what the first one is and the first noise on my car is not this rough as this one sounds. Mine seems more like the tensioner. Can you replace just tensioner or is it better to do chain as well? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wUn8M2X0mxE

The first noise is the starter motor doing an extra turn
What's the second noise?

Isn't the first one engine rattle?? With mine I can hear near the bay and then the starter which is near the radiator. The starter noise is that not the second one.? Confusing but I have been quoted 375 from Honda hq in Cannock for chain and tensioner with parts supplied and fitted. But I want to be sure before spending that amount of money if there is anything wrong. So your saying the first noise is starter and not tensioner or chain??? If somebody could confirm the second two noise please.

Yeah the first one is definitely the starter motor doing an extra turn
The second noise hard to tell, not sure what that could relate to
