Remove the steering wheel & install a JDM Momo Wheel

I swapped my standard CTR wheel over for a 30AE / Premier wheel today and here's how...

1) Disconnect the battery and leave the car for no less than 15 minutes to allow the airbag circuit to discharge.

2) Remove the two panels on the back of the steering wheel (one each side) to reveal two trox bolts.

3) Remove the two T30 trox bolts to loosen the airbag (These are very tight).

4) Free the airbag from its resting place by applying upward pressure to the bottom right side of the airbag, there is a plastic clip holding the bottom in place, be careful not to damage the wheel by applying to much pressure.

5) Disconnect the (yellow) airbag plug on left and the (black) horn plug under the airbag.

6) Place the airbag plastic side up (metal side down). This ensures that should the airbag short and trigger that metal doent shoot up and kill someone / damage something.

7) Use a socket (19) to loosen (ie not remove) the center wheel nut. This is best done with an extra pair of hand, one person to apply opposite pressure and take the strain off the steering lock and the other person to remove the nut.

8 ) Bang the under-side of the wheel with your hand to loosen it from the steering shaft, this is very stiff on new cars, the nut we left on ensures the wheel doesn't fly off and hurt someone and protects the wheel from damage.

9) Once the wheel is loose, ENSURE THE WHEEL IS STRAIGHT, remove the nut and remove the wheel

10) Put the JDM wheel on straight and tighten the center locking nut. Again, you may need someone else to apply opposite force on the wheel to take the strain off the steering lock.

11) Put the airbag back into the wheel, connect the horn and feed the yellow wire back down the gap on the left. To ensure the plastic clip is in, apply pressure in the bottom right of the airbag

12) Connect the yellow airbag wire and secure it back in its clip.

13) Bolt the airbag back in using the two screws each side.

14. Clip the plastic trim back in to the under side of the wheel.

15) Reconnect the battery.

16) Job Done :D

IMPORTANT: Once you have disconnected the airbag DO NOT reconnect the battery without reconnecting the airbag. If yo do, you'll be on your way to the dealers to reset your airbag light.
