Replacement of clutch EP3

Gents,

Some excellent posts here! People here do indeed have a great deal of practical knowledge!

I've got a 54 plate Civic Type-R (EP3) on 63K.

Went in for a service and the garage told me that the clutch needs to be changes. Sometimes it is difficult to change gears but becomes "sorta" OK after driving it for a bit. I know there's known gearbox issues with these Type-Rs.

My question is - if I need to replace the clutch - what's the best one to go for?

Cox Motor Parts are selling "genuine" clutch kits for around £161 inc. VAT:

http://www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/genuine-honda-civic-type-r-clutch-kit-p-816.html

What I've seen on here is people recommending an Exedy Clutch Kit (which is a little more expensive):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EXEDY-OEM...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27bfa630bd

My questions is - what's wrong with the Cox Motor Parts one? Does the price from Cox Motor Parts sound reasonable for a Clutch Kit? Has anyone pre-purchased a clutch kit for an EP3 before from Cox?

You're vast experience would be much appreciated here lads!

Exedy make the clutches for Honda, so it is the direct OEM replacement whereas Cox are pattern parts.

63k sounds VERY low milage for a clutch replacement. I did mine at 80k whilst getting a LSD fitted, it still had around 1/3rd wear left in it... so by that standard, your clucth should have around 50% life left in it. (this can't ever be a direct comparison due to driving style and routes/track use etc)

Thank you very much for the valuable feedback.

Just for your information - I sent Cox Motor Parts a message a short while ago asking if their clutch kits are pattern parts or direct replacement. They came back and said that they only sell genuine Honda Parts.

No worries.

Well they say the honda ones are more expensive than the Exedy clutches so it might be worth doing some googling to see if you can find a cheaper one than your ebay link.
