Rusty Calipers

Hello

I've recently purchased a 2003 Honda Civic, the calipers look a fair bit rusty! The discs are not half as rusty. Do they normally just clean up and get re-painted or are they one of those things that are just best replaced?

best to take them off and have a look, as long as the seals are good and everythings moving as it should a wire brush and a lick of paint will be fine

check the piston, if the caliper looks like that the piston might be corroded and need replacing
then its a choice of piston diy kit or new caliper
you don't want to waste time painting them up nice and then they start sticking

Hi there

Those brakes which are rusty assume are back one/rear one ?

If yes then I would at least check them as above if seals are OK and clean them,if seals are gone then,my suggestion is get pair of new one with new discs and pads, rebuilding the brake calipers is possible if you know how to do,but if not I would get new brake calipers

Thanks,Jura
