Servicing with Honda - Yes or No?

My car is due it's first service in the next few months and I'm wondering whether or not to use my Honda dealership (considering System-R instead).

The reason I ask this is just before Christmas I smacked a rather large block on my way to work after on old farmer wall had collapsed due to heavy rain the night before http://type-r-owners.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6745&highlight=

Due to this incident the car now makes a terrible crunching noise when turning the wheel so I wanted to know what damage had been sustained to my suspension and I took my car to Ryland Honda in Cardiff.

Obviously I didn't tell them I had hit the block, just said it had developed the noise out of nowhere. It was taken into the workshop and after only having sat down for a few minutes the technician returned and basically said they couldn't look at it because I had Spoon progressives and they were not Honda parts and therefore couldn't even go near the suspension. It was even pointed out that my brakes 'were far from standard'.

I left a bit p1ssed off to say the least. After the noise got worse I took it back to there and spoke to a different technician who seemed more around my age and on my level. I basically told him what had happened and that I wasn't trying to get a warranty claim out them by saying the car had developed a fault and just wanted to have peace of mind.

Fair play to him he gave it a look over and confirmed some damage had been sustained. (Now ordering some new coilovers so it's not all bad :D )

What I'm basically trying to get at is this: I'm planning on modding the car even further and if my dealer is going to be funny about aftermarket parts is it worth the hassle when I could have it serviced at System-R no questions asked and probably with a better level of skill.

I would like to know what you guys think regarding this issue of servicing.

i don't think it matters very much these days. I think a specialist stamp is a far better indication that the car has been looked after.

I've started taking mine to System R for my servicing, and from speaking with dealers over the last couple of weeks (I've had a nosey round a few new cars) none of them were particularly bothered by it, it certainly wasn't reflected in any of the trade-in prices I was given :)

Would be my thoughts exactly if I was buying second hand

That's good to hear 8)

i take mine to TDi north every 6000 miles and paul and Mark do a great job for a fraction of the price
dealers employ any old chimp and they are used to servicing jazz's or 1.4 civics, not one that has been modded like yours

If I was buying second hand, two identical models came up, only difference being where it had been serviced, I know which I'd go for! (Specialist, not a random dealer)

Liam,

I would take it to be serviced at Ryland.....the mods will not be an issue unless you have any warrenty claims.

As yours will be the first service, all they do is change the oil and oil filter...not much else.

Word of warning though...........

They only use semi-synth mobil oil so provide your own if you want top stuff....oilman's website would be your best bet.
Also...they stung me for 2 quid for fekkin washer fluid!!

Make sure yours is full and tell them where to get off if they charge you.

I know what your saying Neil but I haven't heard many encouraging statements from people on here reagrding servicing done at their dealers. If I take oil down to Ryland Honda with me how do I know that they're actually gonna put it in as they don't let you go into the workshop with them.

I'll see what the situation is like (regarding work etc) when it's due it's first service. In all honesty I would rather use someone like System-R with my car now.

I have always thought that too.

With the mods your car has....probably better at System R then.

Probably have further mods fitted at the same time eh?

Plus I don't trust ANY dealers, they take your car and supposedly service it.

Will servicing by a third party not invalidate your warranty?

Not as long as they use the recommended bits, my self I had the first service done at the dealer, then its been system R ever since, although the service seems to extend to coilovers being fitted, supercharger fitted etc.

Go to TDI North mate. It's much cheaper and Paul and Mark will def. look after your car as if it was their own baby.

I have just spoken to System R with regard to my first service.
I was going to take it to Honda in cannock but not now, Mark at System R was very helpfull and the price was less than half of what the stealers wanted.
