Shift knob problem

Too much play!:smt047

I know that but without knowing why there's too much play there's no way of knowing how to fix it.

Get someone to wiggle the gearstick while you look at the other end of the linkage and see if the play goes all the way into the gearbox or if it's just at the gearstick end.

hello all, this is what i would do. remember all wear is amplified through the lever of your gear stick
check the linkage behind the shifter (you can pull the plastic cover out of the dash, push your fingers into the rubber boot and hook round the plastic and give it a yank, watch the tight corners though at 10 and 2 oclock they can snap off) you can take the knob and that off but you can see it all pretty well anyway. check for wear
the other end is under your air box, remove air box. the cable ends are like rubber donuts. check these for wear.
now the tricky part. on the gearbox where the cables meet you have the selector housing View attachment 4097 this can be removed from the box inspect for wear..ive attached some diagrams incase you forget how it goes back together. lol. good luck  13-18c38.gif13-22a38.gif
