SRS Light on...?

Messages
164
I was driving home from work today and the 'SRS' warning light popped on on the dash.

Any ideas what's causing this???

Would be nice to know the airbags will work were I to have an accident!
Hoping it won't be anything too pricey...

Thanks

Chris

Cheers Nelly.
Just wondered if there was a common problem which caused this?

I'll get it to the garage and hopefully they'll be able to plug it in and diagnose to a specific area.

my srs light came on and the garage said its the airbag ring in the steering wheel that has snapped, they said there around £200 pound from honda but i've done a little bit of research and found a couple of breakers yards selling them for £30+, but as said above it could be a couple of things, my horn stopped working just before the light came on

Hmmm. I'm reeeeally hoping it won't be anything that potentially expensive! My horn always worked though, which is reassuring.
Taking it to a garage tomorrow so they can plug it in.

have you tried disconnecting the battery?
Haven't tried that yet actually Griffin - I suppose it's worth a shot.
Funnily enough that was a suggested remedy for my other problem in this section...!

How much do they charge you to check the fault mate? Mine is on also thats all! :(

i didnt go to honda but the garage i used only charged me a tenner to have the fault checked, i've not had mine fixed yet as everytime i come to getting it fixed i end up spending the money elsewhere on the car, my lights been on a good few months but seen as the mot isnt due til august i'm in no rush to fix it and i dont use the car enough to have an accident haha  fingers crossed.

i dont know how much of a job to fix the airbag ring your self, but i'm sure someone here would be able to help with that

Not sure whats up with mine but the wire under my seat was unplugged that has something to do with the seatbelt so put that back in now and ill disconnect the battery tomorrow and see if that turns the light off :)

Wont matter for an MOT *** mate some places may put it down as an advisory but its not a fail. Probs a good thing as airbags are ment to be horrible when they go off and really hurt! Mind you i'd like to think mine will work if i run out of tallent!

think mine will fail, because the horn isnt working, so no beeping at sh*tty drivers when i get cut up :p. i think i'd rather get hit by a some air in a bag than fly through the windscreen and face plant the road haha :D

i googled it on how to reset the srs light. let me know how you get on mate.

Haha who needs a horn get your head out the window and tell them exactly what you think of there driving :p

Bad news,
Rang up a Honda specialist, apparently the SRS goes through an entirely different ECU. So basically a normal (non honda) diagnostics machine wouldn't be able to pick anything up?

So that's 70 quid for starters just to get bloody Honda to look at it.

I was then told that the most common fault for the SRS system is the 'clock spring' going (which is the bit you guys are talking about) and it will most likely be this.
If it is, then I'm basically going to be £300 poorer, unless I find one from a breakers.

Aaaanyway, I'm getting it into Honda next weekend hopefully and then I can at least narrow the problem down - I'm really hoping it'll be something more simple!

Thanks for all your help and comments, will keep you posted.

you can definatly pick up an air bag spring cheaper than from honda, i emailed around around some breakers yards off ebay and the cheapest was £30, so im hoping its the same part thats gone on mine anyway haha. good luck with getting it fixed mate and keep me posted on how it turned out, i might to end up taking the dreaded trip to honda :(

U can actually reset the srs light. I tried it, however im a n amatuer to eletrics and was by myself... If using paperclip, u need another set of eyes to watch te dash... Use longer wires u can snap together if your by yourself... Getting the srs plug out is a mothafcukin bitch!

I thought you would be able to get the fault code yourself using the paperclip method as already mentioned, save you a trip to Honda and spending 70 quid. Complete rip off really as they basically do nothing. Good luck all the same.

Cheers Plaything,
I actually found a similar link earlier on today funnily enough!
I did the paperclip process several times but the SRS light still kept coming on unfortunately :(

Thanks all the same!
