Standard oil change vs flush and change?

Hi going change my oil on my fn2 seems fuchs silkolene pro s 5w-40 is recommended, im contenplating either doing a normal oil change (empty old oil change filter put new oil in) or draining old oil then putting new oil in still with old filter then run engine for 10-15 mins or short drive, and draining that and change filter and new oil again, obviously you need twice as much oil or do you? As filter is already full how much oil would i need to put in for flushing engine? I might beva le to save some money if i dont need two 5 litre oils from opie oils

Not really worth flushing unless you're running in or the oil hasn't been changed in donkey's years and it's like treacle.

When flushing, you generally throw away the filter used whilst flushing. At the very least, empty it. I would guess it holds about 300ml.

Also, usually you run it for 3-500 miles before dropping the flush oil.

That's how I've always played it. A-series style.

Ah ok, oil was changed well according to service book less than 1000 miles ago (ive had car 2 weeks) but it isnt as clean as i would think, but i rekon you just saved me £50 thanks!

You could use an engine flush, such as, Forte, it's not needed really though.

I used Forte engine flush in mine just after I bought it when I had a service done just because I didn't know what oil had previously gone in etc. It was for piece of mind really so I knew everything was all good then.

I also did this just after I bought my ep3.

Don't use engine flush stuff, you'll never get all of it out and it'll degrade the new oil quicker.

Don't bother flushing either.
Waste of money

Oil gets dirty quite quickly too. Just because it's not gold doesn't mean it isn't protecting.

Ok so just an oil change, 5 litres enough for oil change and top up? And where should it measure on dipstick and whens best to measure warm or cold? Right now oils just above top dot when cold and i do have slight slope on driveway but i wont measure new oil on slope, i just check it to make sure theres enough in car i e not had to top it up yet

You're changing for changing sake it seems.

However, if you wanna spend your money.. I'd get a 5ltr and 1ltr for top ups.

I teach to check when hot, on level surface and engine rested/ignition off for a few mins to allow oil to drain back to sump.

Oil should be around the top dot. Not too much over. 2mm MAX!

Im changing it because i dont know what oil was in it before and rather than waste money and mixing oils i rather buy something good quality , so 5 litres enough? Rather not spend extra if i dont need too and shortie hamp filters or oem size or just oem filter?

Oem filter is fine, I've always gone for Hamp filters but not the shortie one just get the normal Hamp or OEM.

Dim? maybe im tired but i dont get it lol
whats good gearbox oil recommended? And spark plugs? Might aswel do full service, also how much do garages charge for valve clearances on average?

Lol dim problem just means 'no problem' in Welsh I always put this for fun seems I'm Welsh.

Genuine Honda MTF-3 gearbox oil (Expect to pay around £28 for the 2 bottles you need, NGK Lazer Platinum plugs (last up to 70k expect to pay around £50 for a set).

I've booked my car in to have the valve clearances done they are charging £95 that's without a service. For a service as well, Honda charge around £200 (If you supply parts, must be genuine Honda) the garage I'm going to would charge £250 again if you supply your own parts.

£95 valve clearnces is that from honda? I might just get that done first i dont think it was done at the 25k service cars on 33k now, the rest of service isnt a problem, or is there no problem in getting oil done first and then valve clearances later? All they do is take valve cover off so as long as dirt doesnt drop down oil galleys shouldnt matter in doing oil first

That's with a local garage to me that specialise in Evo's they are tidy guys. A few guys on here take their evo's there.

Don't know how much Honda would charge just to get this done. You could get it all done at the same time but I'm getting the valve clearances done by one garage and the service is getting done at another (it works out cheaper for me that way).

The guy who will do the service knows my dad and is good (Done my last service) but when I asked him about the valve clearances he said he wasn't to keen on doing it (I admired his honesty) as he's never done it on a CTR before and it could be a time consuming job for him, if I was stuck and couldn't get anyone else to do it I could take it back to him. So I'm going to one to get the valves done then back to him for the oil change etc as he is very reasonable with his prices. It's handy to have someone in the know ;).

After reading about honda and theyre computer method of checking clearances they can do one! Lol ive sorted it out with a mechanic mate of mine hes a big honda enthusiast, i rather get him to do it and i'll help or i might do it myself ive got tools etc and seems easy ive done harder things in the past, and it definetley helps having people in the know!

I looked at the how to but just ain't confident enough to try it, knowing my luck I'll bollocks my engine up. If you do decide to do it yourself let us know how you get on.
