stiff gear changes any ideas????

Hi, sorry for the long post can someone help me please as I don't understand why my car gears are stiff. Mainly stiff when cold. When I put car in second it goes in smooth when cold but when warm its like it clicks on something before going in but its not excessive just like a slight feel. The gears have never popped out or crunched I occasionally get the second and fourth gear clunk, at high rpm also they feel stiff when going in. Are these symptoms normal for these cars. The box oil was changed back in January with Honda mtf and have put in genuine Honda clutch kit around 2 months ago. Also when car goes in second below 2krpm the exhaust tone changes when I floor it over 2k its normal. I need help as I spoke to a mate he said the gear box should be silky smooth any ideas would be great cheers haz.

could be a number of things , have you checked clutch fluid level, also could be worn mounts which will make it harder to engage gear due to being out of alignment which can also cause the bangs in certain gears also. Have the selector cables checked also as these could be an issue. More worrying it could be the Syncro's

Thanks for getting back mate clutch fluid is fine. Other than that i need somebody to check it any idea for a Honda gear box specialist in Birmingham?? What sort of price is it to recondition these with new mounts and syncros etc??

it's not uncommon for 2nd to be stiff selection on the ep3 when it's cold.

I'd probably be looking at the very simple side before a rebuild! Generally if you've got internal box issues, it'll at least whine or crunch a bit / a lot as a symptom. Stiff lever, start with checking the selector cables, and the bushes. Tegiwa do a solid shift bush set which fixes the notchiness (I sully 2nd gear).

I do occasionally get a crunch/clunk in second and fourth. What bout the mounts mate? I have heard a bang once as other member has mentioned. But now I need somebody local enough who deals with gearboxes on ep3.

The occasional crunch is most likely just you struggling to get the gear doe to notchiness.

Go back to whomever did your clutch. Ask them to check the cables / linkages.

Replacement bushes from Tegiwa.

I'd give them a try too.

Well I'm going to see mechanic in a week or so to get other bits sorted and I'll get him to check. I will leave the rebuild for time being and see if it fixes with what you suggested thanks mate.

Check to see if it's had solid shifter bushes put in. Sometimes they can cause that issue.

Stretched selector cables too, seems to be quite common.

Anybody know a good gearbox specialist company in the Birmingham area who work on Honda gearboxes thanks.

Look 100 miles north and I'd be recommending Grinspeed or TDi-North.
