EP3 Super low mileage Cat D EP3 - Worth considering?

I am going to see a pretty well sorted EP3 this upcoming week which is at 100k miles. It has some very tasteful modifications and full specialist service history, so all in all a good car. Price wise it's £3720 including new MPS4 tyres.

I couldn't help but notice this on Gumtree this morning though: https://www.gumtree.com/p/honda/200...atch-mega-low-59k-long-mot-px-swap/1284180703

59k miles, looks to have recaros, some sort of exhaust and evo wheels? Was this someone's pride and joy on here before it was traded in to this dealer?

I gave the guy a call and he basically said that the car was Cat D back in 2005 when it was new, so it was most likely repaired back at Honda or a Honda approved garage? Not sure about that but okay, lets say it's true. He also has no idea what the damage was, which is fair enough it's been 13 years afterall and he just took it for a PX.

You guys reckon it's worth a view, and what should I look for in particular? It might turn out to be a bargain.... or a lemon.

edit: Checked out the MOT history, things look ok no advisories what so ever for a few years in a row: https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/

looks like the Tanabe SMR or buddyclub exhaust, or super rare Apexi Hayabusa exhaust to me and has the carbon fog duct inserts.

I wouldnt know where to start with a write off to be honest with you

That sounds pretty good, I ll look to see if I can find more info on the Cat D, but the car does look good to be fair, interior is pretty mint. Will prob go see it tomorrow and see if it's a lemon or a minter hiding under a cat d title :D

edit: Just noticed this in it's MOT back in 2009

"Advisory notice item(s)
near side front inner cv boot torn
center floor has a fibre glass repair"

If the centre floor needed repair, then that hit must have been hard? Unless this is something different.

Worth a look just for the mileage, but remember if it gets written off again the value will be less - but it looks pretty good from the photo's... :D

Yeah that's true, and to be honest at this price point value hardly comes to mind haha. I don't expect it to sell for much after. It would be similar to buying a 100k+ example and trying to sell it in 2-3 years, probably similar money.

The guy is being a bit blunt on Gumtree chat though, won't go take an engine bay pic for me as "it's too cold outside"... It's like mate, it ll be even colder tomorrow lmao.

Does he even want to sell the car? cant stand people with sh1tty attitudes

Apparently no, never replied:

I'm not sure about the Gumtree one anyway.

On it's first MOT check in 2008 it had only done 3000 miles. The car was 3 years old. Not impossible but that is extremely low mileage.

Also is that a cosmic grey but on the MOT check it says silver? Just things I would be wondering about for what it's worth.

They are getting harder to find but I am sure you will find the right one in the end.

Good spot, DVLA VED check shows it as silver. My old Cosmic is listed as Grey.

Dodgy that.

I'd be asking for the VIN/copy of the V5 and doing a full check on that before travelling to see it. Or just find another one.

Yep I spotted that too, to be honest i'm not even going to bother. If the guy has no intention to reply to a sensible question, I can imagine what sort of numpty he will be when I ask him things about the car. He told me that everything I ask for is written in the ad... Well it's not. Doesn't have a mod list, doesn't have previous owner amount, doesn't show pictures of engine bay or underneath and also he was so defensive of the Cat D telling me to learn to research it first before calling LOL. Sounds like he got screwed over with this in a PX and now has no idea how to get rid of it.

I ll stick with the sorted 100k mile one I am seeing on Saturday (although more like next week since I think Glasgow is on lockdown at the moment lol).

What is your budget if you dont mind me asking?

Not at all mate, up to £4k depending on the example, and maximum of £5k for a very special car. I found a few I liked which fit right in, but they were already sold unfortunately. Mint cars don't hang about! :( Or are not 5.5/6k +...

First rule of buying cars - if it doesn't feel right, it ain't right!
Good to do as much research as possible before letting go of the hard earned.
There will always be another one out there, wait a while and you might have more to spend on something even better.

An 05 plate on 73k on ebay in NHB, up for £5500 or offers (2 owners)

Yeah saw that one, pretty nice car tbh. For £5.5k though and no mods, not something up on my priority list. I ll see how the NHB one I am seeing goes first then might look at this one if it's still up.

Cosmic grey premier on eBay in Pompey for £4k, Meister R coilovers, tegiwa induction and spoon exhaust.

Spoke to him a few days ago, through his gumtree add. Only had it 3 months, 109k yet most important jobs have not been done.

I am very picky lol.
