I thought that the Type-r has been designed to not allow for a tow bar to be fitted (well not safely/legally) anyway??

Yes the handbook/Honda say no no so this tow bar could in theory invalidate the warranty and the insurance

Same as carrying 5 in the CTR

 That is shocking!

I don't think there is much the CTR would be able to pull anyway, possibly a small trailer with jetski etc.

But as you said, that must void insurance/warrenty claims!

Why would you want to tow something with a CTR anyway........it'll slow it down

The CTR was a 02 plate, the tow bar looked like it had been fitted for some time.

Humm thats mad one word and thats nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

I've seen a CTR for sale on a dealer's forecourt with a towbar fitted. [-X :smt018

Thats even worse as a dealer should know it shouldn't have a tow bar.

I can understand someone have one fitted at a towbar specialist and not knowing it shouldn't have a tow bar fitted.

Yes a dealer should know better.

indeed the civic R should not have a tow bar fitted as it hasn't got type approval for it.

looks a bit gay too

Spot on if you look at the vin plate it has xxxxxxx shown on the axle weights = no towing capability, i would say that by doing this your insurance would be invalidated !!!.

and it looks CRAP

Why not? it's gotmore power than most cars and the first gear is a really low ratio - good for pulling away with a load on i would imagine.

not that i would ever do it, but i reckon the CTR would be OK to tow ( yeah, ok i know already Honda don't approve it cuz of the chassis blah blah) because of the ace gearbox and the power.

That's the third one I have seen, just need to see a cosmic grey to complete the collection, bit of a risky thing to do as I am sure you would not be covered by insurance, hence then not able to drive it on the road

I own a towbar fitting company, keeping the caravanners on the road, sorry!

Yeah, it's illegal, should fail an MOT (If the tester happens to know a CTR shouldn't have a towbar.), will invalidate suspension/chassis warrenty etc, etc.

But, for example http://www.witter-towbars.co.uk/FittingInstructions/HN51.pdf. Witter are the biggest UK manufacturer of towbars, and nowhere on the fitting instructions does it say excluding Type R, in fact no towbar manufacturers instructions say excluding Type R.

So any uneducated towbar fitting company, even Honda dealer, wouldn't realise that they shouldn't be fitting a towbar to it. I've been asked to quote a few times for them, if I didn't own a CTR I'd have looked in the catalogue, quoted a price, and got the lads to fit it being none the wiser that it shouldn't be done.

It's a bit worrying really, but the CTR is one of the few exceptions where just one model range cannot have a towbar fitted. The Seat Cupra range is the same, but only certain models, then it really gets confusing!

My god I'm sad! :p
