I replaced the gaskets on my rear lights on Saturday, as I was getting some water through them into the boot. This involved just 1/4 twisting the bulb holders out of the light, replacing the gasket and refitting (I didn't even take the bulbs out the holders).
Anyway, I check everything is working hunky dory. Indicators, check. taillights, oh there isn't any. Check fusebox map, it's all in Japanese. Search internet for translation. Check fuse number 7, it's fine and intact. Check tail lights again, one of four tail light comes on. I took all the bulbs out to check them, one is blown out of the four. Check lights again, all 3 working bulbs come on. Great, weird, but great.
Take the car for a drive to the shops and back. Realise the left hand indicator is going really fast when indicating left, so I suspect the bulbs gone. Get home, check the bulb, it's fine, but the connector is a bit old and corroded. I clean it up with a bit of sandpaper, refit bulb and it's back working. Great.
Clean car, put it in garage for the night. Sunday, go over to my grandparents in the afternoon, all is good. When I go to leave and try and disarm my alarm, it does nothing. I leave it half an hour and try again, nothing. I decided to open the door with the key. Alarm sounds and I turn the ignition on, the left indictor is going crazy despite the indictor not being on. I try various combinations of trying to lock/unlock using the ignition key with no success. The car alarm is now going off continuously, in the middle of a condensed housing estate (mostly elderly people at 7pm).
I try half a dozen times to get hold of a guy who fitted my alarm, but couldn't get through. In the end I ring my breakdown service, they arrive fairly promptly, 30 minutes later, only to tell me there was little they could do and an auto electrician/alarm specialist would need to look at it. At this point the alarm had been going off for probably an hour, and I just wanted it picked up and dumped in the middle of nowhere. That's when the recovery guy said there's no way he'd be able to get the car on his truck without dismantling the front of my car and it would require a specialist vehicle to come and pick it up, which would cost extra. I told him to not to worry and he was on his way.
I then borrowed a car to drive home (40 mile round trip) and get my spare fob and my emergency reset code. Once I returned about an hour later, the alarm was still singing it's heart out, I tried the spare fob and the emergency code to no avail, so at 9.15pm I just decided to cut the siren off.
F*%K!
