What is this on the engine?

hi, after being to an engine "specialist" the other week, he noticed something that he said didn't look right, could anyone explain what this nut/bolt is attached to the left side of the engine:

ah ok, should it be coming out so far from the engine? just looks like it needs screwing back in

lol no, that was me, i was cleaning with a wire brush on my inlet and accidentally scrapped the side, didn't realise till afterwards, will respray it in a couple of days. i only really went to the "specialist" to see what my rattle was but he was not helpful, very smelly, and just said that bolt didn't look right

That bolt is fine, only looks like that to make easy remove & replace :lol:

ah ok, fair enough, i still have a rattle if anyone wants to diagnose it?

oil changed, recent valve clearance, sounds coming from rear of engine, i would say that it was 10 - 20 centimeters below the spark plug cover, also sounds loud around the exhaust manifold, i have removed all heat shields and the vtec cover and still persists, any ideas??

I don't know much about cars, but when that happened to my clio sport (**** car btw) the engine was o it's way out.
