Whats good value on an ep3/overpriced?

I sold my car and have a week off work. Tuesday/Wed/Thurs could do with a car. Got my heart set on an EP3 for the summer when i turn 21. The value of the cars and mileage etc varies incredibly I don't know what's a bargain and what's a con. I'd like a black one nearby-ish, about 5K. A lot of them seemed ruined with huge exhausts and silly wheels too.

Just found this one 30odd miles away. Do you think it represents good value, given it's old age?

If so I may go and see it.

Or is it worth getting a higher mileage facelift like this and risking silver?

edit: I mean here, same as first car but much cheaper? what's what? lol

first one looks like a clean car. Right price imo. Second seems pretty cheap. Might be a quick sale might be dodgy...

The prices normally represent condition, I saw two today, both same age/mileage, the first one looked fine, usual chips but as I walked round things came to light and it needed some TLC, it drove fine but felt quite loose. Second one was superb, drove really well and wants nothing, so deposit was left.

I may have a look at the black one and offer him 5 if it's OK. I could do with a car before work starts. 5K for the first one sounds quite good then assuming it drives fine and doesn't show any issues that the sticky lists. Hopefully it will have some resale value if i keep for 12 months given it's age.

With 5k I'd be looking at a facelift with average miles in good condition, or a pre facelift with low miles in mint condition. There's one on Pistonheads I would buy if I were in your shoes, I would have but budget did not go that high. It's got the benefit of a new clutch and LSD in the box, which is probably the best mod you can do.

Thanks Chris. I'm desperate for a standard one though. Would you say 5K for a 2002 one is a little much then? Seems possible. But i've been running around in 90's Nissans so not sure.

Mate, the LSD is a big thing to have, I wouldn't consider not having one if you have the option, if that makes sense.

I would pay £4000 for a 2002 with average miles but I'd want the car to be pretty mint.

Anyone on this forum that knows EP3s will tell you to get that red one.

No mention of clutch change so factor in £500 to change that as it's at the mileage where it'll need doing. Also no side stickers so it's probably been in a crash.

Red one I linked to is what I'd buy, if you don't want it modded, just strip it, it's mainly bolt ons apart from the suspension, and you wouldn't want to take the diff out.

front bumpers not standard which isn't in the advert, which could support chris's RTA concern

OK crash bit might not be true, as it's de-badged on the rear, I'd still be highly suspect of it. I'd personally skip that add and look at others, there's plenty around.

PS, red one.

Thanks a lot. See if i'd not signed up I could have ended up with something like that for stupid money. I'm only 20 mate i want to insure this one properly. Can't be bothered with changing the exhaust, wheels, dodgy interior and all the crap over. There's a lot around but hardly any standard clean facelifts. The 50oddK 2002 black one would be OK but only worth around 4500 really from what i've gathered.
