04' Satin Silver EP3 - My First Honda

Messages

Hi Guys,

Well, I've been meaning to get a thread started documenting my EP3 for months! I have owned the car for a year..bought in Novemeber 2015, being my first ever Honda, I have had Volkswagens in many forms for around 12 years since passing my test. I became bored of the VWs for many reasons.

Before i get any further, even though owning many MK1 and MK2 Golfs a Polo G40, the EP3 is my most favourite car I've ever owned. It's been a breath of fresh air. I love the Honda Community also, been to a couple of shows this year! Mimms at Rockingham Raceway being my favourite.

Here is how she looked when i first bought her 07/11/15, in all honesty i looked at around 6 before buying this one, so many ragged EP3s, people lying about history and condition. This one i knew needed a bit of work, but was a solid base car and got it for a steal!

Nice bit of positive camber going on :p, the car did feel a bit tired, poor budget tyres fitted on the front, hardly any traction. I looked to Loxy for some advice on where to go first with the car, and was so helpful (thanks buddy). He advised a FRSU so this was going to be my first modification, but first was to sort the small bits out, new badges, headlight correction, tyres, service etc.

Once this was completed I took on Loxy's advice and headed 3 and a half hours to Grinspeed to get a fast road setup done by the legendary Stevie, So ABP Eibach lowering springs, camber bolts and arms:

Must say, Stevie is an absolute legend and is worth the trip from North London to Preston! Here was the results
Night and Day difference:

Car felt absolutely incredible once done, i highly recommend Stevie! The tyres were all changed to Bridgestone Potenzas RE050A, completely transformed from the tired old girl i first bought.

26/03/16 - Tegiwa M and Tegiwa Cat back fitted, really nice addition and the difference in power was highly noticeable, I didn't want a Loud exhaust system as i do plan to track the car next year, the noise of the Tegiwa intake is lovely :D

Next on the cards was to get the timing chain done as it was a little stretched, my plan is to keep this car for the long term so wanted to get it done for Peace of mind, at the same time i chose the energy inserts for the engine mounts, which was carried out more locally by Phil at Dream Automotive, another specialist i highly recommend!

Then became the dilemma of whether to go down the power route, or maybe look into a LSD, the clutch did feel a little tired, so decided to go for a clutch, MFactory Racepack diff and thought while i was at it throw in a Spoon 5:1 final drive, once again left at 5am for a road trip to Stevie at Grinspeed, Stevie managed to do it in around 6 hours, clutch was cattle trucked:

While the box was undergoing some work :

Unreal, car feels immense now, completely transformed the car since i first bought it, this is how she currently stands. Next on the list is uprated ARB, maybe progress, and some Skunk2 lower control arms. New genuine headlights will be on the cards as one is cracked and is misting badly.

I'm looking forward to what 2017 brings, I will be hopefully doing a few track days. I'm hoping that i will be at the stage of Header, RBC and Mapping, heres to hoping :D

Thanks for looking, Hopefully get to meet a few of you at some shows next year.

Nice build already! You must have spent about the same on buying the car as what you've done since! Looks like you've done lots of good to her already

Nice to see a detailed thread on the car dude, hope to see you at the CTRO Beds meet on Saturday!

Car is looking sweet as always.

(it's Tom by the way :) )

Thanks for the comments guys, Shame i didn't document the car from when i first bought it, few bits i carried out myself which would of been nice to show, oh well.

Looks great. Are those springs a 30mm drop?

Don't hold me to this, but i think they are 30mm front, 25mm back.

Nice going so far.

I got my EP3 around the same time as you. I've not done anything like the amount of stuff as you have. Still tidying up odds & sods.

Ah nice buddy, I've done quite a bit in a short time but i just thought while doing the clutch, i might as well do Diff and final drive at the same time while the box is out, it's definately spiraled out of control a bit  . It's always good to tidy up odds and sods, still got a few small bits to sort.

You have a build thread buddy?

Lovely car. Nice bit of tlc there and it looks awesome lowered.

Thanks dude, yeah i was really pleased how much better it looks with just Eibach springs :)

Next to sort is an annoying clunking coming from the front somewhere, everything is tight and has been checked, hardly any play in the rack so at a bit of a loss at the moment

few updates soon to come though.

thanks again,

L

Looks brilliant mate.
Just like my old 2005 model.

Nice to see it remains standard looking and faithful to the design.

Mods sound like nice mods too, induction and exhaust, easy to hear, but they don't ruin the looks.
Good work fella

Thanks JMR! Yeah my aim with the car is go OEM+ , keep it near on standard looking but with performance upgrades. I like people thinking it's standard in a way.

Thanks again mate,

L

Had another read and what a nice car. Funny how much i appreciate the ep3 since getting my fn2.

Thanks Commander, it is getting there.

Is there any reason you went from a EP3 to a FN2? How are you liking it?

Sorry i never had a ep3. First Honda is an fn2. It's only after getting one you appreciate the previous models a bit more.
Absolutely love it. My other car is a turbo and it feels so much better driving a car with a naturally aspirated engine like the type r. Also looking forward to getting some mods as I've decided to just keep this for as long as i can!

You enjoying yours?

Ah apologies mate, I got the wrong end of that. Good to hear you are impressed with it, you think you could see yourself in a EP3?

Absolutely love the EP3 mate, As said in my original post, i have had Volkswagens ever since i passed my test until i got the EP3 November 2015, I've had MK1s MK2s GTi's and it might be a bold statement, as much as i loved those cars, this car is my favourite i've owned, it is so much fun, the way it handles, i love the whole VTEC delivery and sound of it. Only problem is how addictive it is, I have got so many plans in my head but we all know that comes with large amounts of money to be spent.
