i went to my local honda dealer in blackburn lancashire at the weekend to price up a service on my 54plate ctr, it has done around 54000miles, anyway they said it was the big one that was due so i expected it to be pricey like around £300 to £350 but the price they have given me is £505:eek: and this is with no extras that may need doing, what i,m wondering is is this a standard price or am i being raped because it sure feels a little uncomfortable:lol:

i will give them a call cheers, i,ve also heard good things about unit 8 in darwen so will call them aswell, i just thought that with honda being on my door step i would give them a chance and like i said i was ready for a big bill just not that big lol, would you say any of these guys would be ok with me supplying a few of my own bits i,e oil and plugs or do they prefer you to buy of them? also can they do the valve adjustment wasnt sure if only honda could do that?

yep, i once got raped by honda. then i decided to do most of it myself, not rapeing myself but the work for servicing. your time is free time hondas time is about £90 hour (or £60 its been along time since my last visit). what i have done is get what is needed for a service, carry out most of the work myself then take it to a normal garage to do the dirty/tricky bits (you dont need to pay someone £90 hr to watch oil drain) chuck em the service book wink wink nudge nudge sorted. servicing is what they give the apprentice to do, some bits are quite dawnting like vale clearences but the hardly need adjusting anyway and you only have to take the rocker cover off and bam there they are. you could probably buy the whole set of tools needed to perform a service and parts and dinner for you and the doris and lots of other treats for the price of the big one. that guy at honda that says "oh, its the big one" that "oh" means £££££. get a service manual.

why pay a man to do a job when you can do the job yourself.

nice post griffin,my bro inlaw does his own servicing on the scooby of his saved loads of coin on the big one like you say cost him 250 compared to 500 at subaru..
