Air Con

Just had my air con regassed last monday by a mobile air con specialist.Did the job and showed me working fine.

Was travelling to Glasgow on Thursday turned on the aircon, got only hot air!!

i said wtf! so called the guy again told me if he had to come out he would have to charge me, cos he said something could have happened in the few days since he regassed my car!

He checked for leaks, told me my compressor was fine. Now it could the value or something he mention some sort of filter/ cold air mixer!

I pissed off as i paid the guy £50 and i cant do shit! With this hot weather i need to get it sorted, if i give it to a dealer for diagnostic, i dont know what the hell they will charge.

Not a nice result fella. :x

This heat is the pits, no aircon is a nightmare!!!!

I'm going to drive past you with my windows up, aircon on full, wearing a coat and scarf

I'm glad im not the only one doing this, I feel a little out of place doing this sometimes.

Not sure how friendly you are with your local Honda garage but I would tend to take mine there for a quick diagnosis. It might be a simple fix?

Have you tried searching around for other air con/fridge engineers? The principle of air conditioning is actually very similar to a fridge and an experienced engineer should be able to tell you whats wrong.

Did he use the right gas? If you use the wrong gas it will ruin the compressor!

I thought most air con units use the same gas?

It was working briefly when he filled it on Monday.

What you will most likely find is that you have a slow leak on your a/c system somewhere.
Did he just re-gas it and leave it at that? What we used to do in the garage is inject a dye so that if its still leaking by using a u/v light you can spot the leak e.g a small pin hole in the condensor or a leaking joint on one of the pipes.
You need to ask him how much gas he recovered from the system when he started working on it before because this is a good way of seeing how much gas you had lost in the first place, for example if he recovered no gas then you can safely say you had a leak in the first place.
We would never just re-gas an a/c system without giving a full check and recommending the dye is injected aswell, its alittle bit like going in a garage with no coolant and them just filling it up and sending you on your way cos surely you and them would want to know where and why you lost your coolant if you see my point.

Thank god for aircond.

Good luck in sorting it out Awesam. Just goes to show maybe it's worth letting the stealers service it instead of independent cowboys.

dudeyrudey is spot on - I was an A/C engineer for a few years too. Sounds to me like a refrigerant leak but it could be damaged condenser, compressor, solenoids or mag clutch, temp sensor or control module unfortunately. The system should have been pressure tested and the reclaimed gas quantity measured, this would have shown any loss. The guy should give you a refund (how about going to trading standards, he may pay up with the threat)

If under warranty just take it back to Mr honda and look confused.

There was no gas in it as the compressor wouldnt come on.

He continued to install some gas and the compressor started working, then he listen for leaks!

Ive now booked into a place who do Air con regasses and supply oem parts aswell.

i wish i went there in the 1st place!

did you get it sorted mate?

Yeah went to place in Brum called Motor Climate, Air COn specialist.

They did the same as the other guy, bleed the system, regass it slightly then but these guys put a dye in it to see if there were any leaks, no leaks were found! :?

But the guy said to me that after a week or so if i feel the temperature of the cold air isnt the same as yesterday's then jsut call and they will check the whole system for slow leaks.

So either the Mobile Air Con did his job and ive got a slow leak or he never put enough gas in it!

cheers for asking
