Another boring fast road set up question....!

Messages

With a newborn baby on board, The 150 mile trip to abp or tdi is just not practical. I have been reading the forums and

1 degree neg camber all round
2mm toe in at rear
1mm toe out at front

appears to be the common setup. My car is just used for everyday driving, not track days. I am looking for more grip without too much extra tyre wear. Will this setup be about rite for me? I alreadt have camber arms and bolts fitted so can i just take the above settings to a local alloy and tyre specialist to get it set up?

Sorry to bore you all with another FRS question

Either of those are probably the best places to go to, up your way of the country. :D.

In respect of the set-up itself, I'm not entirely sure. ;)

Yes any garage with a laser alignment equipment will be able to set that up for you.

A FRSU is what it is, a FAST ROAD set up, as opposed to a more aggressive track set up with more wild camber.

FRSU wont make any noticeable tyre wear more than standard, in fact you will probably find that your set up is all over the place and having a FRSU will make your tyres last longer.

I'd leave the toe neutral at the rear tbh...but 1mm toe out at front is a must. You will also need to make sure the garage has the right eqipment to manually set the geometry, some machines go off factory settings...kwik fit and such places won't be able to do it properly.

A lot depends on personal preference though, toe in is safer than having zero toe, but I always preferred neutral or a little toe out like you.

I'd advise going a little toe in to start, and if need you to change it then change it.

For OP:

Toe in helps control the back end, but will make the car more prone to understeer.

Toe out will make the front turn in, but make the back end a little loose.

The camber angle will have an optimum for your tyre aswell, so anything past -1.5 might just be wearing out the tyre for no reason.

Thanks for the replys. Car is booked in tomorrow. Can i just double check that

1 degree neg camber all round
0mm toe in at rear
1mm toe out at front

is what would be the best settings for me. Will i notice the difference imediately as soon as i get car back?

They might not be the best settings for you, but they'll be a decent place to start with and yes you should notice the difference straight away.

I noticed mine on the first roundabout I came across, although I had my car lowered 20mm, FRSU and a J's front strut all at the same time.

I will definatley be getting this done myself but im in south wales :( where is the nearest place recommended lads? am I really going to have to treck to somewhere like ABP? :(

Head over to Powerstation in Tewkesbury, only just over the bridge really:)

i don't go to track days, but i do like to drive fast around back roads and roundabouts. So would you say 0mm toe at rear or 1mm toe out?

No need to toe it out on the road in my opinion fella, neutral or 1mm in would be a good place to start, then if a few months down the line you want to change how it drives then we can look into what you want the car to do, and how tweaking the geometry might help:)

Thats a much better shout! :) have others been there? i.e. know of any ep3's atall that have had the frsu done there so i dont need to take the full setup details?

thanks for that buddy, ill keep all that in mind once ive decided on which suspension setup is going on the same time :)

Sorry to drag this back up but does anyone else know of any places near cardiff/swansea/bridgend way that can carry out the FRSU? looking at getting it done not to far down the line and would prefer not to drive 2 hours or more :(
