are standard type r ep3 wheels 8inch wide?

Yea, standard is 205/45, but you can also run 215/40 (as I used to on my ep3) which gives you a smidge more contact patch without inducing extra roll due to excess rubber.

edit: 215s also help protect the rim from curbing
 
Yeah am looking at buying some rota gtr 7.5 inch wide with 215/45 you think that will be oh right?
 
Just went out with a ruler and laid it inside my wheel. Lip to lip it's 8" but I'm sure I read they are 7J or 7.5J for tyres if that's why you're asking.
 
A lot of tyre manufacturers actually recommend a 215 width tyre for a 7J rim, and a 235 for an 8J.
 
I just tried the tyre calculator and for 7.5 inch wheel the recommended size tyre is a 215 or 225 :)
