burning oil??

Proper noob question im sorry....

I understand these cars go through alot but im sure im using to much oil. Theirs no leaks as far as i can tell. I noticed when cleaning the back end of the car is getting very dirty quickly. Any ideas?

I used to use 10-40w (what Honda fitted when the car was new) and changed the oil every 6k and TBH if I had to top up in 6k it was less than half a litre

im using castrol edge 0w 30 aswell mate, i had it changed at around september time and i have only used just over half a litre, ask any honda specialist they all recommend 0w 30 for ep3 type R.

0W30 is far too thin for the K20. Honda dealerships will promote whatever they get told to promote for cars by their bosses and tell you it's the best thing ever.

Shell Helix 5w 40 in mine...as supplied by Honda. I dont really care, its oil. Does it make my car go faster by putting thinner oil in...probably not. Do different oils make the engine last longer...maybe. But I'll take my chances and not deviate from the original oil!

Lets get some perspective here gents.. oil depletion depends upon how you treat the car, how much you v-tec, if you blitz it from start up etc... The general consensus is that 5w -40 fully synth is the best oil to use in a K20. Having owned two ep3 type r's from new (which as we all know rely more than most on good quality oil and consistent oil pressure to function at their peak) and changed from Honda recommended Castrol 0w- 30 to 5w 40 ester synthetic, this, is the one to go for. Topping up is now a six monthly ritual rather than a bi monthly task. Comes highly recommended.

been using silkolene pro s 5w40 over the last year and my car uses no more 250ml inbetween its 6000 mile services.

honda put 10w - 40 in my car, i dont think this is correct for the high revving engine that it is, far to thick to pump oil to valves etc when revving. but everyone has their own opinion on these things, that is just mine and i will be switching to 0w - 30 fully synthetic.

ive been using castrol edge 0w 30 since september mate, i personally recommend it, hardly used any since the change and i like my v tec :D

i went to a well know store today ( halfords) to buy oil, the castrol edge 0w - 30 was not there, but 5w - 30 was. but i did go to buy mobil oil. i was shocked at the price of the bloody stuff, so now thinking about buying bulk, maybe 25l?
but thanks for suggestion, i will deffo think about using that oil.
