Cat/Exhaust question

Messages

Car (54 plate EP3) was up on ramps the other day and noticed the centre to back box was held together by one bolt the other was present but the flange has totally corroded so not attaching the two parts together.
The three bolts holding the centre to cat looked like they could cause problems to remove if they dont just snap altogether.

I need to replace the centre section and back box. Question 1 is, will an aftermarket exhaust (looking at piper) hang much lower than the oem centre section? The oem exhaust scrapes the access ramp to my parking area, dont mind a little scrape but dont want massive movements that could cause damage to underside/exhaust.

Question 2. I may need to replace the cat if it falls apart upon removal. Will this be a direct fit replacement

and would it need remaping?

Thank in advance

A after market exhaust will hang a little lower, how much will probably vary slightly from brand to brand though. Might be worth considering a custom exhaust if you think it may cause problems. That said a little scraping here and there's never bothered me.

I feel your pain, I am in the exact same situation.
Back box is only joined to B-pipe by 1 bolt and the CAT b-pipe connection is corroded to hell.
Planning to replace the B-pipe with a bigger bore pipe that's silenced and may have to replace the CAT at the same time. Good spot on the Japspeed CAT replacement, it claims to pass MOT, so that's a bonus. Hopefully someone with experience of the CAT and B-pipe will reply soonish and they can help us both out ;-)
