engine whine, is it normal?

hey guys, first post! but i just wanted to ask a quick bit of advice, i have just bought a 2004 ep3, with 74000 miles on the clock, i've been getting used to the car over the last week, and listening out for anything unusual as you do with a car you have just bought! i have noticed a bit of a whine from the exhaust cam area of the cam, its fairly audable at low speeds/lower RPM when the car is cold, and you can hear it if you listen out once the car is up to temperature, after 2500 -3500 the noise is inaudable, i have recorded a wee video, i am hoping its just a general civic engine noise... the car is run on 0w40 mobil 1 new life. and the oil is topped up as it should be.

apologies i have just realised i have posted this in the wrong forum! i didnt see there was a faults and fixes board!

Right, I think it could be the Valve Clearances. They should be done on certain services, but if the services havent been done at Honda they often get over looked. Its not a massive job either.

This is just going off the videos, so dont hold me to it lol.

Definitely get the valves adjusted, I was quote £100 odd by my local Stealership but ended up doing them myself (with a mechanic mate).

The Type R does has a slight electric engine sounding whine to it anyway but yours has very loud tappets. I run mine on 0w-40 between services.

Mine has a slight whine. Its on 105k now and looking and listening closely i have found it's the idler pulley at the top
You can get a fag bearing for it which i have been told is better than the oem bearing
Im hoping this will sort mine

I havent done the tappets yet but i will on my next service
